Bock Nib On Faber Castell Loom?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've had my medium nib Loom for more than a year and I haven't been using it at all because it's too thick and wet to my liking. I prefer my medium nib Metropolitan.

I was thinking of buying "Bock nib with assembly #5 polished steel - extra fine point". I want to keep the Loom because I love the design but hate the nib. Do you think this is a good idea or should I just sell the Loom and maybe get an EF one?

Thanks.

F-C has a nib replacement program. I sent them a broad nib loom and they put a fine on it. Couldn't be happier. They may charge $5 or so (or not, depending). All you can lose is a bit of postage.

medium nib Metropolitan"""" Is Japanese and @ 1 size smaller than Western....so your Metropolitan is really a F nib.

Faber Castel and GvFC do use Bock nibs...........I would think the one on the FC Loom pen is not quite as high quality as the GvFC's nibs.......in Bock has different qualities.

Do look at the info in my signature.

Take the advice and have the nib changed.

I have no idea how long you have had your Loom. Nor how long they do a free nib exchange.

If it was a Pelikan, you would have 5 weeks for a free nib exchange.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Thanks, I’ve emailed them regarding cost of replacement plus return shipping to Israel. If it’s too expensive I’ll just get a fine Bock nib.

Thanks.

I was quoted $30.5 for a nib replacement, guess Ill get rid of the pen since I cant be sure Ill be happy with a bock nib.

Thats the price I got from the only local (Israeli) store that sells the Loom. They actually charge $50 for this pen so, relatively speaking, the pricing makes sense, just not when you consider the option of buying the pen or a nib online.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
