Thanks, 1nkulus, yes, I've definitely entered the rabbit hole... it started with my quest for the perfect notebook... and I've been blown away by the myriad of products out there, it's been fun exploring. I learn something new every time I visit this site. Figured I might as well join the gang here and see where it leads...

This rabbit hole is very deep and mysterious and should provide a fascinating journey. wink.png

It is a very helpful and knowledgeable community that enables one to charter the unexplored corners of the stationery realm.

Very true. My other interests have been very much helped out by other similar communities. Although I will admit that this community here seems like a real gem -- probably the result of the kind of people that tend to care about and gravitate towards quality stationary and its related ecosystem. And it's no surprise to me that people who still care about writing things down by hand would form this kind of group. Sort of a breath of fresh air in a very toxic hit-and-run Internet these days.

Undoubtedly, old world charm surviving and thriving in the age of glitzy tech. An oasis to engage in simple pleasures.

Thanks, guys! Reminds me that it all started for me several years ago when I used to be huge fan of Moleskine notebooks... and then a pen enthusiast back then told me that Moleskine paper wasn't very good, that I should look into other products. I was dumbfounded. How could anything be better than Moleskine?!?! I had thought "paper was basically paper..." but then I started testing other papers and so began the adventure. Wish I found this website a long time ago. Would have saved me a few years wandering in the wilderness. :-)

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Better late than never, now you'd better get cracking to make up for the aimless wandering. wink.png

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
