Stained Twsbi

Recommended Posts

I have two Twsbi ecos, one has become stained by Diamine Grape ink. I have tried things like a soap solution rinse or leaving it in water to soak awhile, mild ammonia solution. The stain would not budge.

Tried opening the pen but the wrench just turned, this wasnt pilot error, I can open my other Twsbi without a problem.

I was cleaning out some wine decanters with dishwasher rinse aid, which made them sparkling clean. Thought I would try the same stuff with the Twsbi and the stain disappeared within 3 seconds, I rinsed it out and all now seems good, the pen barrel is perfectly clear and as new.

The main ingredient of the Rinse Aid I was using was 10-15% Nonionic Surfactant. I hope that no one will rain on my parade and tell me that my pen will self destruct with this chemical because it has cured a persistant problem which was all the more noticeable on (what should be) a clear pen

Mr Internet Search Engine sez rinse aid may contain alcohol along as well as other ingredients with many consonants in their names. As a sufactant it may increase ink flow. I'll stick to Sailor Doyou.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Well, I popped some in my badly stained TWSBI 540 overnight and . . . . . . . nothing.

Oh well, onwards and upwards.

I'm glad it worked for you though.

Thats odd, my pen was clean within a few seconds, right before my very eyes.

Having said that I have filled it again and it has stained a little straight away. The new ink is MB Ultra Black.

I am going to live with the stain, actually I had forgotten how well the pen works so clouds and silver lining.

Oooo MB Ultra Black eh?

I've fallen head over heels for MB Permanent Black. Hope you're enjoying the Ultra.

I have had this ink in my ink drawer for a while and this was my first fill, I read the reviews and the reviewers said that it wasnt really black, despite the name. Almost Black might have been a better name, it has a hint of another colour, a red or a deep purple. Very similar to Penbbs 249 and both provide very nice hardware with the ink.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
