This 616 large arrived from YC Guo today. I had not noticed the HERO imprint between the feathers before. Is this something new?

From the markings on the packaging, this is from the Shanghai factory and made in Nov 2018.

Thanks.

The Hero 616 Plus (with converter) has it.

Mine 616 Doctor, bought from mentag and with the old "aerometric" filler, has the old style clip.

Thank you. I was not aware of the c/c version. This one is a regular fixed squeeze filler and fills quite efficiently holding an impressive 1.76ml ink.

Hero pen Lishui had switched to this clip design for quite some years already , where Shanghai still use the old pattern clip

Thank you. Is it possible to determine manufacturing location from the following pics of the packaging? Whats on the green label? Are the pens made in nov 2018?

well, yes it was made on that date as shown on the photo, actually that kind of date stamp on outside packaging was used since the 50's ; The green sticker is sort of factory seal ( like those used in prescription drugs ) ; it include id Tag code that can be used to track Manufacturing ( used by custom and excise also )

All my Hero 616 have this ( Hero 616 + , Hero 616 Small , Hero 616 Jumbo, Hero 616 Jumbo Golden Cap , Hero 616 MK 2 , ) i believe even miy Hero 616 from the 80's has it.

I love Fountain Pens, with hooded nib in the classic style, Parker 51/61 type .

oh, ok. Interesting to hear about the green tag.

Can you tell me if the pens were made at Shanghai or Lishui? Is it written on the packaging? And do you need a pic of the front of the package? Thanks.

No telling that, the address is just the marketing / sales / Customer contact .. likely their office handling all these ; on some packaging the fine text would specifically say where the pen are manufactured ( most of Hero's more up marketed models had such ) but not on this particular one

This is what YC Guo wrote to me today in response to my queries:

Only Shanghai makes Hero 616 big size. Hero 616 small size are made by Shanghai and Lishui. But Lishui makes small Hero 616 with golden nib.

3) The new version of Hero 616 big size the "Hero" on clip, old version has no "Hero" on clip.

Best

Hari

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
