Good Morning From Germany

Good morning fellow fountain pen lovers,

after lurking around here for a couple of weeks I finally signed up to become a member of this lovely community.

Having gone to school in Lamy-Land I got my first fountain pen in the early nineties and went through a couple Safaris and my moms Parker 25 flighter (that I sadly lost and miss dearly) during that time. I never stopped using our beloved writing instruments and the ones I bought during Uni are still with me.

Up until this year I only collected Safaris/AL-Stars and LXs I like, but have branched out a bit since then and am planning some more additions to the family. While my Safaris will always feel like coming home my VP has quickly become my favourite EDC. I just love the design, the clip and the overall practicability so much! ❤

Right now Im using my job as teacher as an excuse to try ink samples in various colours. Colour-wise I like it bright and cheerful and the same goes for my pens (and even my car). I generally prefer bigger nib sizes, but have some fines and one extra-fine one for grading tests. UEFs give me slight anxiety lol.

As I cant change my profile yet, here some more tidbits about me: Im female, in my mid-thirties and have Brian Goulet-sized hands. I live in Germany, about 2.5 hrs from Akkerman and usually spend the summer and Xmas with my second family in Canada, which quickly made wonderpens my favourite stationery store. Aside from pens I love cooking and baking and am a huge hockey fan (comes with being a part-time Canadian).

Im really looking forward to interacting with fellow fountain pen lovers!

Warm regards,

Katharina

Welcome! I'm new, and not terribly active here yet. I started with my most expansive pen I think, which was given to me. Then I have worked my way around most of the brands. Nice to see another Hockey fan! :D

Greetings from Sweden

I'm glad our guys did well yesterday. A bit shaky here and there - but they got potential at least :)

Hello Katharina and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Thank you all for the warm welcome 😊

PAKMAN, Im glad you enjoyed your trip. Where did you visit and which pen did you get? I must admit that I only own coloured pencils and two mechanical pencils by Faber Castell, one of which is over 20 years old and still in good shape.

Made it to Frankfurt, Mainz, Whittenburg, Leipzig, Berlin, and Vienna. Picked up my pen in Mainz, it is a GvFC Tamitio in black

Cool. I’ve only been to Berlin (and Frankfurt airport, which doesn’t count lol), but all of them are on my list of places to visit in the future, especially Vienna and Wittenberg! The food is usually pretty good „down south“.

Congrats on the Tamitio, it‘s a real beauty. Hope it writes as well as it looks.

Welcome Miss Katharina! You will find lots of great information here and many suggestions to expand your collection.

Cheers,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
