Im new to the fountain pen world, at least as it exists today. Interested in chatting with anyone in the area to share knowledge and experience with different pens. Been using a Mont Blanc for many years but only recently discovered Pelikan, Visconti and even Parker

Howdy from Pittsburgh! :W2FPN: Where abouts do you hail from? (I went to college at UB -- way back *before* it became "Moon U, thank you very much.... :rolleyes:)

I generally suggest that new people click on the "View New Content" button when they log in (you can adjust how much/often it gets updated in the sidebar on the main page) to get a good overview of a range of topics. Don't do what I did when I started -- which was to read the Parker Forum. All of it.... It was 175 *pages* of threads :o 7+ years ago -- and it's bigger now. Also have a look at the Pinned Index to the Ink Reviews Forum (we live in the Golden Age of ink).

But I should warn you that we are all shameless enablers here, who will happily help you spend all your discretionary funds on pens, ink, paper, repair tools, storage, sealing wax and seals, ephemera, and your time haunting antique stores, eBay, various online vendors, and pen shows. I speak from experience, having fallen down several rabbit holes (mostly the vintage pen one -- I love my vintage Parkers best, but all my EXPENSIVE pens are Pelikans).

So, what ink(s) are you using at the moment?

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
