I have a bottle of Petrol on the way to me. I plan to pair it with my first 149 which is also on its way to me.

Ink 'em if you got 'em!

Orange and petrol look great. I didn't realize how dark corn poppy red was (might have to buy that)

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

That's awesome. I was wishing for another blue in the MB regular ink line up and I think the Petrol Blue will be perfect, right in between the Royal Blue and Midnight Blue. [...]

Rather than joining the regular ink line up my understanding is that Petrol Blue is their limited 2019 COY (Colour of the Year) and will only be available for a year. It’s also sold in the square 50ml bottle, rather than the 60ml “shoe” bottle. I could be mistaken of course......

You are right.

I too was hoping it would be part of the regular line up in the 'shoe' bottle but it isn't. sad.png

"Old wine in new bottles" to me.

It is possible, do any previously launched colours come to mind?

I am not fully MB trained. biggrin.png

Anyone have any info on when the Petrol Blue might be available in the U.S.?

I have it in my hands now. Ordered it directly from Montblanc in US when I couldn't find it on any reseller sites. Received it earlier this week and used for the first inking of this 149 I just got yesterday. I'm pleased with both.

Thanks for the red comparison! Very useful. Now I know for sure I need to get more of the Corn Poppy Red before it's too late.

Would you happen to have a 'B/OB' nib for a written sample?

Some yes. Smearing but the writing remains legible.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
