A great cracked-ice pen!

It does not belong strictly here, as it is a Montegrappa of the Fortuna series, instead of the Extra. But I would stress the term strictly, as it is clear that the sinuous and curvilinear shapes of the Fortuna are direct descendants of the Classica ancestor, via Historia-Extra--Extra 1930.

"Fare fortuna" means, in Italian, to have success, and there is no doubt that the Fortuna had a lot of success!

Congratulations for you beautiful pen.

Ahh Sorry to bomb this this thread then. Thank you FPUPULIN for that.

Just wanted to add another photo of the lovely Montegrappa Mosaic Wildlife pen, that I could not resist buying. The resin is exquisite - one of the most beautiful non-celluloid pens I own. The natural outdoor sunlight really brings out the colors. Another thing to note is the slight yellowish tone of the sterling silver furniture.

Enjoy!

Lovely pen and photo, Nyoko.

Looks like it has a lot of depth to the resin.

Thanks for sharing.

Of all the materials inspired to the turtleshell, Montegrappa's Turtle celluloid is in my opinion the one that most resembles "the real thing". It is absolutely three-dimensional, deep, variegated, unpredictable, brown and gold and black and yellow and grey...

It maybe that such a gorgeous material would help any pen in looking good, but paired to the silver, in the sinuous shapes of the Extra 1930, it is simply phenomenal!

By the narrower cap ring, I guess the parchment pen is a Historia LE. A great edition, the Historia, approaching the almost perfect proportions of the Extra.

The Extra Yellw is a gorgeous pen. My daughter has a Miya in the same celluloid, and the subtle nuances of yellow on yellow are mesmerizing and difficult to capture in photography.

I never saw before the imprint on the Extra filled with a different color from the bare celluloid. This blue gives a lot of character to your pen. May you enjoy it in good health.

Yes, that is the parchment Historia LE! :)

Makes a very nice complement to the Extra.

 I've used a wax crayon to fill the imprint with a complimentary color  I know some will dislike but I have not experienced any ill effects and it can be removed easily.

Thank you for your comment.

Cheers

The Extra Otto is one of my most photogenic pens:

fpn_1566238198__montegrappa_extra_otto_a

Here she is shot together with the flower of an orchid endemic to the Philippines, Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica. The name, coined by a German botanist in late XIX century, refers to the irregular rose-purple markings on the flowers, which reminded him of Egyptian hieroglyphics. Here the flower are photographed with backlight that emphasizes the glossy transparency of their texture.

In the next two shots you may see the difference when the light hits the flower more frontally (on the left) and more from the back (on the right):

Bryant Greer at Chatterly Luxuries has a new line of Extras being made for him by Montegrappa. Unlike most Extras, these aren't celluloid, they're resin. But I think the stacked resins are really nice. I got the brown, which has hints of Arco brown. The nib and trim are rose gold. The cool thing about these is the matching section, which I find much more appealing than the sterling section.

Also new is the nib engraving. I don't know if this is new for Extras going forward, or just for this series. The pen is also available in red, green, and blue. I believe it's limited to 20 per color.

You beat me to it! Beautiful pen though. I think the resins are lovely, and I really like the resin section. Mine has a really outstanding nib. If I recall correctly, Bryant was telling the story in DC that these were leftover nibs made by Montblanc during the Richemont years. I need to follow up and get the story on that. This one has been the best writing Montegrappa out of the box I've ever bought.

Turtle with a delicious, very narrow EF nib. The Edelstein Smoky Quartz is a dark, greyish brown, with no hue of red. I like it paired with the Montegrappa Extra 1930 Turtle.

To celebrate my upcoming 70th birthday, I treated myself to this Montegrappa Extra 1930 Futuro in Orange G10 epoxy resin, with a BB nib, from Bryant Greer at Chatterley. Happy Birthday to me. This pen writes like a dream.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
