Is Any Of These Sheaffers An Incredible Bargain At $30 - $40?

Hi,

A friend of mine, from overseas, sometimes visits flea markets and he knows that I'm into pens.

He sent me this photo of a tray and I'm wondering if there's anything there, assuming that they're all fountain pens, that, based only on this really bad image, would be an incredible bargain at that price.

If you suggest anything, please indicate the number and what it is (all I know is that most are Sheaffers and I know practically nothing about the brand and its models).

Thanks!

Alex

I like touchdowns and would jump on 17 and 18. 19 is a Targa, might also be a good choice. 10 and 11 are Parker 45's, worth $30. 12 is a Parker 61, which I like but some aren't as enamored with.

I get lost with a lot of Sheaffer models, so I can't speak to 13 thru 16 and 35 thru 39.

One test is worth a thousand expert opinions.

32 is actually two pwns, a Parker Arrow and a Cross Ballpoint, 34 also two pencils, both Sheaffer but one could be those engraved sterling silver ones, 36 is Sheaffer prelude, 38 & s9 Sheaffer Lady.

Looking closer -- I'd think 34 has a pencil underneath, but the top looks like a ball point (there appears to be a cut-out under the bulge of the clip -- didn't Sheaffer have a series of ball points where one pressed the clip into the barrel to extend the point?)

A "Reminder Clip" ballpoint. My dad had one in the '60s.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
