Sorry, but this pen looks fake to me.

Haven't seen this pattern in a bicolor version and never an engraving on the tip. Also the engraving within the cap band looks "not Montblanc like".

And for the price: too cheap to be real but too expensive for a faked pen.

Hi, doesn’t look good and one of many on eBay. You should make claim through eBay and do not send back because they will just sell again to someone else. Good luck and sorry this didn’t work out better.

When you open a claim you can state that it's a fake. You don't have to return it and the refund will appear....eventually

Wise words.

I always abide with Axel's say. I, also think it looks a bit shoddy for MB?

But, don't you need to be 100% certain that it's a fake, before you use it as grounds for refund etc?

I don't know much about ballpoints - the finish looks poor on this one?

But, I couldn't swear either way, on the current evidence.

hansvdc: Have you Googled the serial number?

Good luck

What happens if someone claims a genuine pen is fake, what steps do eBay take before automatically refunding and letting the buyer keep the item?

In other words how easy is it for a dodgy buyer to claim a genuine item is fake and get their money back and get to keep the genuine item.

I know they will gives a very quick refund on none deliveries if no tracking number is provided by the seller at the time of sending. What are they like for fakes.

I know I once had a not as described item from China and they refunded me and told me to keep it as it was too expensive to post it back to China using their postal label system.

You tick the box that it is a fake but you also have to write details of exactly why you think it's fake in the box which is reviewed by ebay. So yes, you do need to be certain. If you cannot be certain but still have concerns about the pen, the right thing to do is to open a case stating you think it is a fake but cannot be certain and the seller has offered a full refund on return, which is what you intend to do. This process covers you from an unscrupulous seller who promises a refund and never delivers it. Unfortunately there are also unscrupulous buyers who will try to game the system, but ebay does give the seller the right of response.

This is a fake, it is fake in as much as those with a little knowledge such as me, call it out as a fake, but to get a definitive its a visit to MB Boutique I suppose and ask them. It is so frustrating to see so many dodgy pens on eBay and on principle I would do my best not to send this back for him/ her to sell again. eBay are disinterested in taking any action, I forget how many I have reported and they continue to sell without any interruption. Sure as anything this is fake, but I dont think this is going to convince eBay or Paypal. Good luck though.

I agree. Looks like they did a loose barley pattern on steel trying to mimic the geometric series. The seller even used pictures and prices of geometric series pens in the listing. And then there's that tip...never happen.

Do you mean there are many pens with that same number?

If so, there is your evidence, for your claim.

There should only be one Montblanc pen with your serial number.

Good luck.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
