I was surfing thingiverse and came acroos the following

I thought that adding a plug to the cap could be a solution to the transport of opened cartridges and I made this for universal ones:

With the cartridge outside

What do you think?

Thanks for the attention,

A solution looking for a problem to solve?

No, really - it looks good. I would never have thought to build a container for carts pulled out of pens. I've done it a few times, and this would have saved me some grief while trying to clear a clog. (and trying NOT to squash the cartridge).

One of those things I don't think about. I always think of ink cartridges as a commitment. If you open it, you had better use it, or else. Never occurred to me to consider a cap for them. Nice ingenuity.

I'd be curious if you left a half filled cart with that cap on it for 30+ days, would you notice any evaporation out of it?

I'll admit that when I first started out, I was like eharriett: put a cartridge in a pen and write it dry. There have been numerous posts about how to refill/reseal cartridges (I personally like 100% silicone caulk (the stuff used for sealing around your bathtub). The only downside is that I'll never go through it (it's a tube the size of a large tube of toothpaste, and to sell a cartridge back up only takes a little dab).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Interesting idea. Like others have stated, when I put a cartridge in a pen I leave it there until it is done. This would be a great idea for travelling, however.

My intention is to use it to carry a spare cartridge filled with ink from a bottle. Most of the ink I use is not available in cartridge form.

I don't think the PLA prevents evaporation over long periods of time.

I've been looking for something like this for a while for syringe refilling cartridges. This would be specifically awesome for my Kaweco Sports, which only fit really bad converters, since it would allow me to carry around a few syringe filled cartridges of whatever colours I want.

I think there is a market here if you (or someone else) could make them in bulk and sell them in batches of 10 or something. (I'd love to print some myself, but alas I do not have a 3D printer and buying one just for this would probably be a bit much...)

Edit: Removed very minor curse word, which seemed much more offensive bleeped out.

I don't think is feasible to sell it because it will need some tweaking due to the variability of cartridge's external sizes.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
