Ink Pif

Three times now I have been the recipient of PIF pens from the generosity of folks here.

A year+ later and I have more ink than I can possibly use and absolutely no Idea where it all came from, lol.

I also have ink that I just really don't like. Looked good then. Not so much now.

So, I am parting with 20 vials of ink. I think it's a good sampling,

I would really like this to go to someone relatively new who hasn't been exposed to other smaller companies.or

different colors like the Monteverde Noir or Gemstones series.

Or someone who just doesn't have the money to spare right now but wants to try something different.

However this is open to all in the US.

I will random pick a recipient on the morning of 4/18.

You must tell me what is you favorite ink color. And whether you prefer sheening or shading inks.

You will receive 4-5ml of:

Sailor Jentle

Shigure

Papier Plume

Grey Wolf (Exclusive for Karas Pen Co) This is really a medium charcoal but can be cut 1:1 for lighter smoke colored ink.

Krishna

Sea Storm

Sumukhi

Birmingham Ink - I wish I could include more. They have lovely ink, but it's the only bottle I have-the rest are samples.

PA Railroad Boiler Steam Blue Black

KWZ

Honey (I swear this smells like honey)

Baltic Memories

Robert Oster

Straight Bass

DeAtramentis

Plum (scented)

Blackstone These are outstanding and much underrated inks imo

Blue Gum (scented)

Red Kunzea (scented)

3 Oysters

Cobalt

Noodlers

Ottoman Red

Monteverde

Brown Sugar

CA Teal (from a new bottle received last week)

Charoite

Fire Opal

Copper Noir

Jade Noir

Mercury Noir

Good luck!!

May I join this PIF? I have never had any fountain pen inks, all replaced with food coloring instead, but I'd be interested to try some!

My favorite color is any shade of (extremely black) black, especially if it's extremely glistening. If I'd pick a second favorite color, I'd pick any shade of purple, but especially Pelican 401 Violet, considering it's deep sheer sheen stays on even when it dries (and less in part but also because I have a crush that likes the color purple).

Edit: not sure which links I can use to post images, but the violet in the pelican 401 inks is very satisfying

Not in but very generous of you. My favorite color was a bespoke from Noodler's called 5 O'Clock Shadow. Similar to Noodler's Zhivago but with a little more black.

Of course you may!

Nope, no food coloring allowed.

I love a good black, too. Iro Taki sumi and Kyo -no-oto Nureba-iro 01 are my favorites.

Blackstone, Robert Oster, and Krishna have wonderful sheening inks.

Good luck!

I had to go look for at that one. Very nice. I have tried Black Eel, Bad Belted Kingfisher, Bad Blue Heron and a few others. The only bottle I have is the Ottomans Red which I won't use in my entire lifetime.

Good luck!

I'm in! I'd like to try a sample of the sailor ink you have, and the KWZ(as I wanted to try the honey shade, as I really like the color.) As for my personal favorite colors, I like, Blues, Greens and Purples(in no order of favor, mind you!)

<i>Many boys will bring you flowers. But someday you'll meet a boy who will learn your favourite flower, your favourite song, your favourite sweet. And even if he is too poor to give you any of them, it won't matter because he will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. Only that boy earns your heart-Leigh Bardugo

In that case, will Parker Quink ink do? It's the only "legitimate" ink I have ever used, yet it's black is just not... black enough

I don’t have any Monteverde inks. Mercury Noir!

Can I enter for that ink?

Favorite color is hard, but De Atramentis Mint Turquoise is one.

I like shading inks (and now outlining or halo-ing inks).

TY. It's a pleasure to do this. I've benefited a lot here. Not just in terms of being PIF recipients, but in knowledge.

I have a generous pif on the way, so not an entry but want to say, thanks for the pif!

No, I'm sorry. You can't pick any one. This is for the entire lot of 20 vials if you want to be entered. I may do one of just the Monteverde inks at another time, tho.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
