Hey guys. I have been watching fountain pen videos since the past few months on youtube and was pleasantly surprised to discover that i was ill-informed about fountain pens, despite the fact that i used them during my school days for about 4 years. I liked them as long as they were new and wrote well but as they got damaged or leaked due to poor maintenance and carelessness, i gravitated towards ball point pens. But back then we didn't have the internet in residences as we have today(not even in our school) as it was very expensive and only MNC companies could afford it(in 1990s in india), so being well informed wasn't a possibility unless i spent my precious time digging through libraries, considering we students were hungry to score well and secure our future with a decent engineering job(something very common among the children here, even today) by concentrating on school curriculum alone . The ink pens weren't so sturdy as the one i recently purchased- a Jin Hao X450, and were pretty scratchy. But now after experiencing the smoothness of the Jin Hao and hearing and watching videos about Platinum 3776 and Sailor 1911 Large and KOPs, i am eager to delve deeper into the FP world. I currently enjoy my study time in the evening with the Jin Hao, writing notes and practicing problem-solving methods(in writing before i implement them the next day) and formulating theories to solve real life problems. I expect to learn more about FPs from the veterans here and exchange relevant ideas with all.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
