Hi, I'm new to this forum and I hope this post is appropriate. My grandmother recently gave me her Waterman Fountain pen. She doesn't remember much about it and I am having trouble finding any information about it on the internet. She thinks it is at least 30 years old. I don't even know if it is a dip pen or if it's just dried shut 😂. Do any of you guys know anything about this pen? I greatly appreciate the help!

I do not remember the name (LadyPatricia or Lady Agathe or whatever ..?) but your pen was made for women in 1980´years...several finishes and tubular packing...Regards.

I got that very pen for wife #1. It would heve been about 1981. I don't remember the name either, but it is a very nice pen.

 

It takes a cartridge.

I think you are right! I do believe it is a very rare version of lady Patricia. I was able to find one picture of this pen in this color, but I can't find out anything more.

Definitely a Lady Patricia from the 80's, but one that seems to have lost its colours.

I don't think so, I believe this is a rare variant of the pen. I found this website

I have successfully identified the pen, special thanks to Mr. Rene who correctly identified it as a Lady Patricia. More specifically it is a 1987 Waterman Lady Patricia Laque Burgundy with an 18k gold fine nib! Thanks, everyone!

I will take a cartridge to refill but is likely hard to open due to dried ink. Soaking in cool tap water for a while will clean out much of the dried up ink.

The Lady Patricias are lovely pens. You see the chequered ones more often. I love that deep burgundy - very satisfying colour.

 

The converters for these are quite tricky to find, but you can use a Waterman mini cartridge.

 

Take a little time cleaning up that pen and it will be a delight. The Waterman fine nibs are very enjoyable.

I brought the pen to my local pen store, the owner was able to open the pen and cleaned out the dried ink. I was able to buy some mini cartridges and the pen writes beautifully!

Thin, metal at end of section, cartridge = design of the 80's, it seems. I was recently shown a Waterman Gentleman and a Caran d'Ache Madison by two people in their 70's and 80's. These were the pens they used in the 80's. By today's standards, they are almost too thin in girth to write comfortably. Metal part at end of section is known to rust. Of course the sentimental value is another subject.

Of course the sentimental value is everything. Even if someone offered me $1,000 for this pen, I would never sell it.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
