What Is Your Opinion Of The Jfk?

Hi,

Im considering purchasing from the local MB store the JFK FP in burgundy to match my rollerball. The thing is I havent seen much about it. The store does not have any to try (nor any other FP). If you have one, what is your opinion about it?

I have the ballpoint version, and I love the color balance between the burgundy and gold. The ballpoint makes me certainly want to buy the fountain version.

Its one of the reasons Im considering buying it. The rollerball feels great in the hand with a good balance. Im hoping the same with the fountain pen. This is why I was looking for feedback from those who own one.

I own the ballpoint pen, the rollerball and the fountain pen, blue version, and I like the write with each of them.

For me, there is not much difference in writing with the rollerball or the fountain pen. The ballpoint pen is a bit different.

Weight wise I think the rollerball and fountain are well balanced while the ballpoint pen is a little top heavy if you write longer, but not uncomfortable.

I like the design except for the initials on the clip. It it weren't for those I would strongly consider buying it.

+1. I agree that the initials detract from the appearance of the pen.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

Your boutique doesn't carry fountain pens? Or they just don't have any you can try? I thought all boutiques were required to have the 146 demo set.

This store is an authorized dealer but their primary stocking items are jewelry and watches. It seems they will not stock writing instruments unless demand is shown for them.

There's two things that prevent me from using my JFK more than I do.

  1. No ink window. The only way I can be certain that the pen has enough ink left to last through a day is if I fill it. PITA
  2. The cap does not post. The body is not tiny but it is a little too small for me to hold comfortably. It's also awkward if I'm in a crowded conference room and I don't have a table spot...what to do with the cap?

Other than that it's a really nice pen that writes great.

New JFK color due for 2019. Maybe want to wait and see it?

Hahahaha....I wish I had seen this earlier today, I just bought the original Blue version 😂. Are you allowed to say when in 2019?

It appears the store owners must have read my mind...or this thread. I visited them this afternoon. They changed the layout of their Montblanc displays, showing more pens than before. Model 149s, LePetit Princes, Warhol(?), M and a few others.

By the way, I did order the JFK FP this afternoon. I should get it by the end of the week.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
