Private Reserve: Plus Ça Change, Plus Ça Change...for The Worse!

Eric, I have Andromeda and while it is pretty to look it, it is no fun to use. For me it was cloggy and dried out too quickly. If possible, you may want to try a sample first. On the other hand, the bottle is darling!

I agree. Andromeda is one of the worst behaved inks I've experienced.

So, the Andromeda is nice, although it's more of a twin to Noodler's Ottoman Rose than to PR Plum. I don't have a budget for Bungbox, etc., and I'm tired of ordering based on web-photos, so I'm going to take the Andromeda and add some Waterman Purple to it. Just a little...

Please show us your results. We'd like to see them and know if you like the performance.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Several years ago, I found Noodler's Saguaro Wine was an impressive match for my bottle of PR Plum. So much so that alternating words between the two in my Clarefontaine journal was indistinguishable.

You may want to consider Taccia Ebi. I recently received a sample and my first impressions have been very positive. Please forgive the paper I used for this writing sample. It is not very fountain pen friendly, regardless of the ink. On Tomoe River paper, this ink really shines.

Honestly, Saguaro Wine, Yama-budo and Taccia Ebi, along with Bungubox l'Amant are on my "to try" list. Of all of those, the first two are the most likely, being the most obtainable, and economical (especially Noodler's). What about Cactus Fruit, by the way?

the old ink reminds me of the "stained" ink I did with R&K's Alt-Bordeaux.... I think I accidentally dropped a few drops of Pearl Noir? (else it might have been Rouge Hematite) into the bottle :X

to be honest I actually like both versions of the ink that came out... still looking how to reacquire a bottle of Alt-Bordeaux

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
