US Postal service is really valuable for those of us who live off the beaten path.

Similar experience when I have been on holidays off the beaten path. thumbup.gif

Perhaps my next thread is "Describe that feeling when your pen finally arrives and you get to unwrap it, ink it up and take it for a test ride write.

Had it a couple of times in the last couple of weeks, both with Montblanc pens that were listed on eBay with real rubbish photographs and miss spelt titles, ended up winning both for well under half whst they normally go for and one of them, the 146 was in almost mint condition and included it's original case.

Was having the proverbial kittens until they both arrived.

Depends somewhat on the pen. But generally nervous/panicky, thinking that "Something is Going to Go Wrong". With the Plum Demi 51 Aero, I was absolutely convinced I was going to be outbid -- especially since the auction was ending at 4 PM on a Saturday and I wasn't going to be home for hours. Walked in the house at 1:30 AM and told my husband I didn't want to know how much it went for -- as in "What is this 'snipe' of which you speak?" And then I got curious about what the hammer price was -- and when I saw that I had not only won, but hadn't even hit my *intermediate* maximum (I had increased it a couple of times over the course of the week as I watched the bidding creep up -- but I had never *actually* been outbid ) I was screaming at the top of my lungs....

Then of course was the fidgeting until it came so I could be sure it actually WAS a Plummer....

Going out on the web... comparing color photos... seeing the reliability rate of the courier... reading reviews... and worst of all, simply looking out at the mailbox, hoping it comes sooner than it says...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
