I think I'm going to start photographing my letters before I mail them (not that I mail that many letters).

But yes, the resulting graphic is pretty cool.

Very pretty! This is an example of why all I strongly prefer to use inks with good water resistance (at least leaving a clearly legible line among some smearing). Definitely for sending post cards and letters, more lax for personal use on things that don’t matter in the long run.

Leaky mailbox art, it's gonna be a thing.....

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

Depending on what was written, this may leave a better impression on the recipient.

This is the reason I double-wrap important letters - I fashion an inner envelope from wax paper (the kind used in the kitchen) and wrap my letter in it before putting the whole assemblage in the envelope proper. Especially important considering how rainy my city is.

Unless the letter was written with Sei Boku ink, that is. A letter in that ink should be readable even during a diving session, assuming the paper holds up. :)

Well, I would call it art. I'm sorry to see this. I send important letters in plastic envelopes.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I misread the header initially. And thought the thread was about a bottle of ink that had broken in transit or something.

Sadly, that happened to me a few years ago, back when FPN member Pharmacist was first playing around with iron gall inks. I had ordered three different colors because he had a deal going. Only when they arrived I got a notice to pick the package up at the post office. One of the (plastic) bottles had cracked open at the shoulder in transit, and the package leaked all over the place -- including on the counter at my local post office.... Lost the entire contents (which, while still a little bottle, still made a BIG mess). And the worst part was that it was the bottle of Turkish Night.... :crybaby: I contacted him immediately (even though it was a Saturday) and he very kindly replaced the ENTIRE order -- not just that one bottle. But I was still bummed because it was such an amazing color.... And I don't know whether to hoard what I have left, or use it up before the iron content precipitates out.... :(

Use it! Life's too short too regret not using it! 😊 Very kind of him to replace the whole order, too!

I've not had a cracked bottle, but a Monteverde bottle which wasn't sealed properly. In combination with pressure changes during the flight, about a quarter to a third of the bottle ended up outside of it 😔 Thankfully Goulet packed it really well, so only the packaging of said ink was soaked and another one had some spots, plus some Valentine red bubble-wrap 😆 Since so much ink was left, and it came free with the purchase of a pen, I didn't bother contacting them. It'll be years before I finish that ink anyhow 😂

It would be excessively costly -- but my fae mind is thinking "Next letter should be sent packed in a new mailbox"

Have only received two letters that arrived like this, in the hundreds I have received. Both from the same person. A pen pal in Alabama.

As far as I know none have I have sent have arrived at their destination like this. I usually address with Pelikan 4001 Blue Black

Gosh! That's better than the letter I sent a friend in Europe. Their's arrived blank with pretty coloured paper. (yes, I did put the letter and not blank paper in the envelope).

And I thought I had found a grail ink.

On the quest now to find my grail waterproof ink.

Just pretend it was intentional. "You were crying when writing the letter."

My wife thinks I should take a detail from that photo, enlarge it, and have it printed onto cards. It is rather pretty.

The two A4 sheets were folded into the square card you can see at the top. I'm pretty darn impressed that *that much* water penetrated the whole thing. I mean, it looks like those pages were submerged!

I've never worried about water resistance, and I've been sending letters for 40 years. Maybe it's time to start? ...or maybe it's time to conclude that if this happens once in 40 years, then that's the last time it'll happen to me!

Personally, I’d be thrilled to have that problem once in a while. It never rains enough here for that to happen. A few smudges on the edges are the worst I’ve seen.

Coincidentally enough, the recipient was in Sydney. Just happened that the letter was delivered during a deluge.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China. With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters. Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed. And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments.. I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
