Thoughts On Penbbs?

I can confirm that all of their models are good pen for the money. Very nice acrylic and excellent build quality. 309 is a great entry into the brand and in fact that was also the start of my Penbbs experience. I will say my favorite one is the 456. One of the most original design I've seen in years. Very practical filling system, nice added weight and overall, one of the best pens in recent years IMO. At $40? It's insane. The pen just feels very premium because of the metal parts at the right places, which results in great balance.

I don't have a much experience with Pen BBS' offerings, but I recently got these two PenBBS 380s and I must say I'm impressed.

The medium nib is one of the best out-of-the-box experiences I've had to date, and I have pens costing several dozen times as much. The aluminum body has excellent feel as well.

I'm maintaining a comprehensive list of Iron-Gall inks. Contributions most welcome! bit.ly/irongall

Thanks everyone! I've decided I'll possibly take a chance on that pen! (:

Good for you. I hope you enjoy it.

I'm considering getting one or two of these, and wondered if anyone knew about the C/C models: do they come with converters, or do you have to expressly buy those separately? (And do they fit standard international cartridges, or as I extrapolated from reddit, Lamy cartridges?)

Actually, I found an answer after searching a bit. Since this might be helpful to others, here's a 2018 cartridge and converter guide to their models.

Yes, they are worth it. Good quality, well made, nice acrylics. you can even change the nibs. Only negative: the feed is a bit fragile.

They sell nib units now. No need to yank out the feed anymore.

You will find a lot of information in this forum, just search for the right name, because you misspelled it. It's called PenBBS. :-)

Converters included (often two are included and a rollerball insert is as well). They're also interchangable with parker converters.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

Thank you! I need another fountain pen like a fish needs a bicycle, but the 456 and the 323 (and maaaayyybe even the 267) are looking really tempting to me. :-)

Let mine be another voice in the chorus of praise for the 323.

It's a bit annoying that it doesn't post, but the design of the pen is both beautiful (I bought one in black just so I could appreciate the form without being distracted by the material) and ergonomic – it feels great in the hand.

I have most of the other PenBBS models, too, and have no real problems with any of them except the 471. Honeybadgers is, imo, correct – the Moonman Wancai is a better pocket pen. And like Mech-for-I, I prefer the acrylic 323 to the anodized one.

Lined paper makes a prison of the page.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
