My wallet is saying "feed me". So, I better settle for the regular version.

Well, whatever anyone here thinks of it, TWSBI's site says not available; you just have to select each nib size, one by one, to get the message.

Too bad.  I really was going to spring for one.

Another thread I saw earlier today said they were already completely sold out.

DANG that was fast.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Mine arrived here in the UK yesterday. It is a very attractive acrylic. But then, green is my favourite colour :)
It is a big pen, bigger than I expected.

Sold out!  : (

Well there's no way they're not going to make more.  It's one of their best designs, if not, the best I've seen from them.

I thought I was done with TWSBI, but this Aurora shoved itself to the top of my list along with a couple of other must-haves.

You wouldn't happen to have a scale that measures in grams on you?

Or some comparative photos to other generally known pens?

I can weigh it & do measurements later (Im still in bed lol!)

Its a tad longer than the Eco, wider than the 580, and a touch heavier. I think the piston may be metal. There are comparison shots on Instagram already. Use hashtag #twsbiaurora. But if you dont use IG Ill take some photos later & post here.

Thank you!  I took your advice on the instagram hashtag.

Here's a good instagram photo:

https://www.instagra.../p/BvLlIGQjFG_/

And the instagram search with that hashtag  #twsbiaurora:

https://www.instagra...gs/twsbiaurora/

It is a big pen.  I'd say it's a full sized pen, girth and length.

I liked the 580 a lot.  It didn't have a narrow section like the Eco, looked much better, had a good substantial feel, but that metal piece at the end of the section got slick for me and I always wished it was just plastic/resin and more accentuated to make the pen easier to hold, especially for longer writing sessions, which is exactly what they did with the TWSBI Aurora.

I'm very curious about the weight uncapped.  I hoped they kept it somewhat light.

I totally agree about the 580. I generally dislike metal sections because of their slickness. So my 2 favourites are my Black & Rose Gold Edition, as the section is black acrylic (shame about the rose gold plating flaking from the nib though). And the recent grey edition, as the section is lightly ribbed and consequently grip is so so much better.

Ive just weighed the pen for you, uninked.

Capped it is 32.4 grm and uncapped it is 21.0 grm. I dont like heavy pens so this is an acceptable weight for me.

Edited for spelling/autocorrect errors.

I see virtually zero similarity between the TWSBI Aurora and the Aurora Optima.

The name of this pen *clearly* refers to the atmospheric phenomena, the aurora borealis and aurora australis, *not* "sunrise" or "dawn", and *not* the Italian pen company. I don't understand how anyone could mistake the green color and black chrome for being anything but.

It's the section shape and ink window, too,I think. But I don't care. I like an ink window in that location, and I think many manufacturers should do the same. It's one reason I like my Konrads so much. And the cheaper the better.

That's larger than expected and it's definitely sporting a #5 nib.

Wonder why they couldn't just make it #6 since it is a limited edition after all.

The 580 ALR did intrigue me, but Pilot Gold nibs stole me away from that pursuit lol.

At 21g the TWSBI Aurora is solid, but borderline too heavy for me, depending much on the balance and ergonomics.

For example, I can handle a Jinhao x750 at 22g uncapped for short-medium writing sessions, but at 19g unposted the Pilot Custom 823 wore my hand out in 2 sentences lol.

And especially with such a rigid nib used, the Jowo, I much prefer a lighter pen, like the 580 at 14g unposted/empty.

______________________________

I think if TWSBI kept the weight down and put on a #6 nib it would be a true flagship.

I rather take that $100, save, wait if I have to, and get and Aurora Optima if the Eboya Natsume doesn't steal my attention first lol.

$100 for TWSBI is a bit adventurous if they are using the same material as the 580, LE or not.

Glad they had a sellout.

I might have bought one with a #6 nib and a different colour. My 580AL and Eco have not, yet, cracked.

A blue/grey version with CT would be nice.

I really like the twsbi aurora so far, i was pleasantly surprised at its translucence. A #6 nib would  have been better I think.

Has a lovely design, but...  kind of clunky on the finishing touches:

  • A bit too hefty, though some people like that
  • Could use a #6 nib

Currently I thought it's out of stock, so even if you are planning to get it second hand market is the only option
