Comparison Of Twsbi And Lamy Stubs

I have Lamy Joy 1,1 mm for about five years now and I love it. But the thread shows that the pen is used very often and unscrews itself when I write. So I decided to buy another pen. After reading hundreds of topics on this, I want to go for TWSBI 580 (really like the way it looks). But... People often report that its stub is really wide. Not sure now, if Eco wouldnt be better. Is there anyone who owns both Lamy 1,1 (pretty sure Safari has the same nibs as Joy) and/or TWSBI 580 and Eco in stubs and could make a comparison of them?

Thank you =D

I can't post photos since it is too impossible here on FPN, but I have multiples of both and in general I think the TWSBI nibs run a skosh wider, but also are a bit more crisp. In my experience, the TWSBI stubs are smoother and offer a bit more line variation, but not by much. I like both of them quite a bit.

I could take a few pics and post them on FPGeeks via tapatalk if you would like.

That would be great 😀 Glad to hear you found twsbi crispier, love this on pens. I often heard that 580 stub is too wide for daily writing, so wanted to find out if its true. (Also probably gonna have some more questions later since there are many topics on twsbi and on lamy but just few on lamy vs. twsbi and as far as I know none on comparing their stub versions 😁)

Thank you so much 😀 Thats exactly what I needed. Probably going to buy 580 first and maybe Eco later (curious about why everyone seems to like it so much). And just one more question - is the Precision comfortable to hold? At the beginning of my search I wanted to go for it but the different widths of barrel compared to the grip part seemed rather uncomfortable 😄

I find the Precision to be very comfortable to hold. The step down between the barrel and the section is not very much. The weight of the pen just fits my hand. I don't post any of my pens, so I am used to only holding the pen body and the balance I get with that. The cap is always just held in my left hand.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
