Can Someone School Me On The 144 Vermeil Variations

Hi - I know there is the pinstripe version and also the barley version, but I think there was also one version where it has alternating flat sections and then some barley or wavy stripes. I have seen this before on the 146 in silver, it is not that easy to find. Does anyone know what model these 144's would be and also any pictures of this one I am mentioning where it has the alternating design, which is really my favorite of the 146. I wonder if they did this in vermeil on the 146 as well. Thanks.

Kinglarge, the pen on eBay is called "Pure Silver" and was never made in Vermeil.

And your last picture shows a steel body - no silver. ;)

thanks. I didnt think that maybe the 144 was not silver, but steel... makes sense. I wonder if the 144 was made in gold b/c I bought one online and it is being shipped to me. I own 50+ MB and am pretty darn certain it is real, but can't find much info about this pattern.

Seller was actually super nice and I think is totally legit... paid with credit card with buyer protection and we agreed if the pen was a fake, I would return it for a refund (but I will pay shipping round trip)... hopefully it is real, just never seen this one before...

This thread really has a lot of info, I only found it after you told me the pen series is called "Pure Silver". it does seem to me like they made a 144 in the series and that it was indeed silver, nothing leads me to believe it would not be. model 23644...

still no info about a gold colored version, so still very odd and kind of fun to eagerly await my shipment (even if it is a fake)...

so who thinks its fake? I wont be insulted. Also - the listing said it was gold, and the pics make me think it is gold, but we all know sometimes the silver pens, look like gold in color, so maybe it is actually just the silver pen. HMMMM!

seller shipped it... says the body color is indeed gold. boy, I am so curious. Certainly massively increases the chances the thing is a fake...

Womp. Pen was fake... Sending it back. Oh well.

So sorry to hear that. I guess most of us were thinking it, but just did not want to ruin your prospects that it might actually be a real deal. Enjoy the hunt.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
