Your Dream Twsbi

Is there that one TWSBI that you just wish you had, but for whatever reason it's just out of your reach?

Mine is the old moss green 580AL. Discovered TWSBI's way after it was out of stock, and the closest I've come to getting one is a used one that someone wanted $150 US for (which I totally get it a reasonable price on the collectors market, but for a Canadian who works for a not-for-profit, $205 CND for a used pen that retails new for $80 CND was just too far out of reach...)

I also wish I had known about the other, earlier 580-AL colors. I have one of the pink ones, from a couple of years ago, and I like it (although the color of the section was affected by soaking the nib in dilute ammonia solution awhile back). But if they ever re-issued the purple, I would buy one -- even with what I think are flaws in the design (i.e., the piston does not extend all the way to the back of the feed). And if they ever came out with something like the Eco or Eco-T in purple, I would be soooo there... going "Take my money already!"

Mine would be the Micarta, sadly no longer made.

Mine dream TWSBI is not yet made, a Diamond 580 with no 6 nib without reducing existing section and barrel length but 2 mm thicker diameter and longer cap .

I would also buy the earlier 580 AL colours (soft green and purple). I wish I haven't missed them, they were already sold out when I began to collect fountain pens. I love Eco and 580 AL, so I'm always happy when a new colour is released, but the latest ones haven't succeeded in making me forget that purple 580.

Indeed. I've got an ECO with a piston stuck inside it, and a VAC Mini that has cracked around the barrel and the threading on the back, to the extent that it will not post.

I just want a pen that, like, works!

Lined paper makes a prison of the page.

Sorry to hear of a double whammy. angry.png Email TWSBI to get replacements and then sell the pens. They will probably just charge postage.

Get something else that 'works' from the proceeds.

I too will be selling, Eco and 580 AL, mine shortly lest a similar fate befalls them.

I wish I had known about the Diamond 580 with red and blue (US version), and the mini diamond in white and rose gold. But I was not aware of TWSBI then.

If it's any consolation, the new 580 ALR will be purple 😉

I'm personally looking forward to the next transparent eco color after the orange. I'm really digging the transparent ones ❤️

I've had similar issues. Take some silicone grease (provided with your pen) on a toothpick and work it around where the seals are. Then use a pair of tweezers to extract the piston. It may take just a bit of wiggling until the seal hits the silicone grease, but then it will come right out.

Before putting the piston back into the barrel, be sure to lubricate the seals with silicone grease so that it slides up and down easily. Then put is all back together.

Contact TWSBI about your cracked barrel. I had a cracked barrel on two of my Ecos, and Phillip at TWSBI sent me new ones for a minor charge ($5).

A micarta with the filling system of the Go, and a fine stub.

A couple of years ago, TWSBI put up a picture (on Facebook I think?) of a pen that looked similar to the Diamond 580, but with a #6 nib. If anything was a "dream TWSBI", that would be it for me!

If the 580 posted correctly, I'd be happy with that.

A Vac 700 that doesn't break. Sadly, I've just about given up on this ever being possible.

I’d like to see Twsbi add a gold nib as an option. When Twsbi first started, they said there would be a gold nib added to the line.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
