The Japanese department store MItsukoshi will have a penshow/fair in March. They make space now and have sales for pens from last year's show.

At the moment a Sailor 1911L (Profit21) for $97.

A special Japanese design in either navy-gold* or ivory-gold.

Nib size F or M.

*A Smug Dill: thanks for the error check - it is corrected now.

> And do you know if they deliver internationally?

Sorry, I don't know. I think you might need to order this using a proxy service.

Thanks!

A special Japanese design in either black-gold or ivory-gold.

Nib size F or M.

The colours are actually navy (ネイビー) and ivory (アイボリー), but yes, Sailor's navy resin looks almost black.

Ivory with M nib has sold out, and ivory with F nib is low in stock.

The regular colours of Sailor Profit21 has a list price of ¥21,600, so I'm guessing this sale offer is 50% off the ticket price of the store exclusive special edition.

I also bought one just now - the navy one.

I am going to swap nibs - I want to use my EF with it - and sell the black one in which the EF is at the moment.

I couldn't actually buy one because it won't accept my Mastercard (issued by an Australian financial institution, of course).

Unfortunately, such things happen also if you try to buy in Japan with a foreign card. This is why you might need to buy via a proxy service. They have Japanese credit cards.

Amazon Pay is listed as an option, but then I'm not sure an Amazon Pay account registered in a different locale (say, USA) would not be rejected by Mitsukoshi Online at the last step either, in the same way my credit card was rejected.

Not to mention there is no region selection for Australia when I go to check out Amazon Pay's service.

Never mind. I'm not really that keen on the graphics on this limited edition pen anyway; it was my fiancée who thought it looked cute. I could get a plain version of the Sailor Profit21 for ¥13,200 on Rakuten, so in terms of buying a pen with the same performance characteristics, the price difference is not huge.

And Rakuten happily accepts my Australian-issue credit card.

Even with google translate, I'm totally screwed. I think you have to have a Japanese address. ARgh.

The reshipper I use gives me a Japanese address and telephone number to use for such purposes, but I cannot get around it if the site requires a credit card from a Japanese (or just not Australian) issuer.

You can - if you use a service which orders for you. There is at least one in Tokyo but I forgot the name (as I don't need such a service).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
