Montblanc Meisterstück 149 is generally considered to be an oversized clunky pen with some weight to it & should be easily available. Heavy is a subjective term though, what you consider heavy might be considered light by some.

I don't think most people consider the 149 heavy.

If you are looking for heavy OP, look for the metal bodies pens. Something like the martele 146 or some of the previous limited editions in silver.

honestly you may be better off trying something like a Jinhao MB 149 clone with is a similar size to a 149 but much heavier as it is metal.

If you want less blah, blah, blah and more pictures, follow me on Instagram!

I own a Montblanc Miles Davis and it is both a rather large and quite heavy pen.

Best to go to the boutique and try out some pens to see what feels nice in the hand.

My Hitchcock (RB) weights 84 grams (149: 30 g) and is by far my heaviest pen. With a little bit of luck, you will still be able to find one at a reasonable price.

Heritage 1912 is small looking, until you unwind its retractable nib. It also my heaviest pen due the brass barrel. A really solid feel in the hand.

Harder to find these days, but one of Montblanc's finest. Certainly near their best nib.

Just a side note;

I have to say when I unwrapped my newer 146 I first noticed my 644, which is a marginally smaller, is heavier than my 146 - even without the metal cap. Then when I filled it with ink it immediately felt noticeably heavier.

I thought it might mean it can hold more ink than my 644.

Try any of the special 146 LeGrand size such as UNICEF, Blue Hour, Martele, Geometric, etc. Those metal bodied pens are quite heavy. Any pen whose barrel isn't resin might fit the bill.

My 145 size Blue Hour Doue is exceptionally heavy for its size.

Dear friends, thank you all for your kind reply! THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I love my Montblanc 149 but I do not consider it heavy. I think that for my personal criterion of weight classification the Scipione Borguese is perfect, but the budget does not allow the acquisition. I'm going to test the Beatles and Alfred in the boutique. I saw some pictures of Martele and maybe it's the one I like, I'll try to find it, too. Since this last one is on the regular line, I might find it!

I will post photos soon.

The heaviest MB I have used is the Ludovica Sforza POTA, which is solid sterling with lacquer - weighs about 100g. I used one for a few months and sold it for too little.... I got less than a Martele 146 would cost me, so if you're happy with pre-owned, but still excellent condition, you can get a monster of a pen for a reasonable outlay. In my experience the POTA pens are in a different league of build quality to the Writers editions and Meisterstuck range. They are truly works of art and very solidly made. Worth the investment if you like the aesthetic and form factor.

The heaviest Montblanc ever is the Heritage 1914. No comparison as none are in its league in terms of weight. The black one is reasonably priced, think thatll be what youre looking for.

And we are talking about lets jot down a few words with it because itll break my hand if we try to write a whole page kind of heavy

You may have a different perspective on "reasonably priced" to me. Sure it's less than the coral version, but it is still nearly 10 times the price of a 146.

Fantastic pen though. I found one in Macau. Tempted, but I will make do with its far more practical little brother the 1912.

I got my black new/sealed at 50% off retail and know ofhers who did. Since OP and others considering POAs 4810 then it puts it in the same price range more or less $2,500 VS $3,500

Fantastic tip, I had seen some pictures of her, but I do not know the reason, I thought small (of course i was wrong).

Being of polymeric material, I also imagined that it was light to my taste. However, limited issues ... are, as they mentioned, quite expensive for my budget. At least I'll try to get one in my hands. Thanks Pravda!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
