Your Loveliest Bird?

Of course, they're all lovely but one of them really stands out for you. Which one is it and what makes it so special?

 

For me, it's my blue-stripe M400. It came with an M which laid down a Sharpie-sized line when I tested it so I put it away while I dithered over buying an EF nib outright or seeking a trade in Classifieds. Fast forward a year, I'm using Stipula Dark Blue in my green-stripe M300 EF and I finally track down Musk Green. I want that in the M300, I think, and I can move the DB to the blue-stripe - but not with that M nib! Then it hits me - d'oh! I can swap the M with the EF on the red-stripe, which has also been sitting unused. C'est voilà!

 

I've been using it - a lot - for around a month now. While it immediately struck me as even more seriously understated M405 Stresseman - more severe - it wasn't until I really looked at it that I noticed the difference between it and the others. The stripes on the green, red and grey are right at the surface, they're crisp and shiny and reflect light. The blue stripes are also on the surface yet they seem to be deeper down because the dark surface of the stripe appears to sit on a translucent under layer so that when you turn the pen and it catches the light you get these long, iridescent, pale blue strips of light flashing up from the depth - truly a wonderful effect that lends the pen an air of mystery.

 

My M250 Levenger tortoise also exhibits this iridescent effect and is, indeed, a beauty yet it lacks the air of mystery the blue-stripe possesses.

Oh that's a toughie. It's a four way race (five way if the Café Crème ever turns back up). Right now, I'd say the 1990s era M400 Brown Tortoise and the Striated Blue M405 are running neck and neck; but the M120 Iconic Blue is a strong contender, just nosing out the M405 Stresemann.

Really want that in 600.

I have a 500....rolled gold cap and piston cap, light tortoise. ....well a lighter tortoise than my 90's 400. It has a monotone OBBB maxi-semi-flex 30 degree grind nib.............a pure signature pen....2/3's to 3/4ths a page for a legal signature........Well do have a nice semi-flex B nib I could use.

The 215 in Lozenge is pretty nice. I do like my marbled brown 200.

 

Sadly I don't use my Amethyst as much as I'd expected.( think I need a backlight)

Do use my nice greenish Celebry and 381 a bit more than expected....after all one 'must' have a cartridge pen or three.

I have two. The first is a M800 Blue Ocean. It was my first love, though I wasn’t able to find one until 15 years after I started in FPs. The second is my go to pen, a LE Evolution of Script with a Binderized M Italifine nib. Sweet, soft, juicy nib matched to a pen that shows off my love of history and, of course, the evolution of writing.

The stand out for me is my ultimate grail, the Toledo. Amazing pens and amazing artistry. If I had to let the flock go, the Toledos would stay.

My favorite is my Toledo T111. I bought it at the Ohio Pen Show last November. It is inked with Pelikan Blue-Black ink.

Has to be my 2016 brown tortoise M400. First runner up: the M600 red-striped Souveran.

 

And why? They're elegant workhorses, beautifully balanced, a pleasure to write with both physically and aesthetically.
