Hello lovely FPN community. I have joined the network after lurking for weeks.

I'm returning back to fountain pen after two decades.

I have resurrected this hobby again, with the inception of year 2019, with an objective to restore my handwriting like back in days when i was proud of my handwriting. I made a considerable distance from pen and paper, due to profession life of this digital age. Not anymore :) !!

I currently use few Parker and Camline fountain pens with cartridges, procured form my local stationary shop and planing to get myself metropolitan, safari, TWSBI, etc in Q1 2019.

Local market has changed a lot in these years, now FPs are not even readily available here and if available in some stores, they are considered as luxury item and priced exorbitantly.

I hope through the help of fellow members, I will be able to discover places where i can buy genuine pen at competitive prices.

I am not worried about inks at this point of time as Diamine, ships to India at very reasonable price and planning to order consignment shortly, batched in set of 4 inks per consignment so that i wont be levied any customs. And since I'm not a fan of blues and blacks, my first batch may contains:

  • Diamine - Ancient Copper
  • Diamine - Peach Haze
  • Diamine - Havasu Turquoise
  • Diamine - Syrah (planing to make it my daily driver in twsbi eco - medium)

I'm also planing to get Diamine - Skull and roses (form a Germany based retailer, who ships to India at affordable charges ) :)

I take this opportunity to thank the Mods, Admins and all fellow members for maintaining the quality of information in this forum!

Edit: I'm also planning to get into calligraphy, at later point of time :)

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Greetings from Durham in northeast England. Sounds like you are signing up for the same reason as me: regaining something like reasonable handwriting. I suspect many of us started like that. But be warned - as YGV says above, fountain pens can be addictive! Somehow there's always one more pen, one more ink, one more whatever, that it seems you need. It's about the best fun in the world.

Hello! I have been here since a few years but always quiet because most of people here has more knowledge than me so not much to say. Your country has good fountain pens made locally like Ranga and Asa Pens but my favorite are the Pilot pens that I got from Amazon USA. Also in your country you can find low cost and good quality inks like Krishna. I buy Diamine from The Writing Desk and Cult Pens and the cost for Diamine 30ml is very good!!!

Greetings and Welcome to FPN

I am Dinesh. I am from Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. Can you reveal the details of the retailer so that i may also use his services.

What about customs duty. Did you pay every time or is it a hit and miss?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
