Greetings fellow pen lovers,

 

I'm a "new to fountain pens after a prolonged absence" pen-person. In the 90's this girl from the Canadian prairies spent some time in Europe and discovered the delight of student fountain pens. Over the years, they got lost, stolen, put aside etc. Then my sister-in-law and brother-in-law opened the floodgates- I didn't know that other people did pen stuff. My husband enabled me by purchasing some gateway Chinese wonder pens. A small collection of Jinhao 126, 599, 159 and Baoer 388, 3035. I've since added some more Jinhao 599, 500. This Christmas past, I was gifted a Lamy Safari all black and my writing experience was unparalleled. A Benu Bricolette has joined the fold along with a set of Pilot Metropolitan Retros and Vibrant Pink Safari set, and a dark purple Lamy.

 

It's become a full-on obsession. My kids love their pens too! They are 7, 9, & 12.

 

I live just outside of lovely Victoria, BC, I homeschool my kids and also work as a home learning support teacher.

Looking forward to getting to know you folks better.

Ah, Victoria is one of my very favorite places! I hate to tell the number of times I have vacationed there.

Another archipelago dweller here! Hi.

 

How are you enjoying our 'taste of winter'? The best (and worst) thing about living on the cost is that we don't get enough winter to buy winter tires... except if it chooses to snow that year. By then, it's too late because no one else has winter tires either. An inch of snow and the city shuts down.

 

Much better to stay home and play with pens.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
