Waterman Gentleman - Help Identify Label On Cap

dezro

Recommended Posts

I've got this Waterman G'man which has 'SDA' label engraved on cap, does anyone know where this acronym comes from? Limited edition for Seventh-day Adventist (church)? :)

Couldn't find anything online, and unfortunately there are no papers with the pen.

Thank you, a couple of photos attached below.

Suspect that it is more likely to be a company logo.

There is a shipping company based in Italy with these initials but, bearing in mind the age of the pen, it is possible that the logo is from a defunct business.

The box says 'plume' (nib in French), perhaps indicative that it was sold in France. In which case, it could be a pen made for the Syndicat de Défense des Avocats (Lawyers Union). Their current logo is not that, but I've found this one that may be older.

The only snag is that, besides the letters SDA, the rest looks like a uni amphitheatre, or perhaps a concert hall.

One of the well-known business schools in Europe in SDA Bocconi in Italy. THe amphitheatre could also symbolise something like Drama Arts (with School, Society...).

No real answer I'm afraid, but perhaps ideas for more research.

Thank you @Francois_uk and @Creakyknees for your suggestions, I was also looking for something related to concert halls or educational establishments, but no perfect match so far. the search continues. The French Syndicat de Défense des Avocats is a pretty good guess, thanks for that.

The semi-circular design on the finial could also be a courtroom or legislative assembly, so Lawyers' Union might still be relevant. An attractive pen!

I have asked about the logo SDA on the Waterman Collectors group on Facebook. Several lawyers in that group....

Alas the answer is negative.

A French lawyer and pen afficionado said:

SDA Societe de defense des avocats is just a small union. Unlikely that they had such logoed pens.

Sorry, no result but it was worth the try.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
