Help To Idenify This Waterman Model

Hello,

I like 18 KR gold overlay version of the Waterman bchr or celulloid, etc models like for example the 42, 52 etc, I found this model and I got a couple of taperite, this model I found looks like a Taperite but the information provided for the seller do not match and I am not pretty shure about the shape. Like I said looks to me a Taperite because of the shape and for the semi hooded nib. Which model do you think it could be? thanks.

Interesting pen. Waterman's Stateleigh was advertised as the top of the range Taperite
The pen advertised seems to be a Taperite section with a plastic lined gold plated metal body and cap that appears factory machined as opposed to 'Jeweller Made' as advertised
The date suggested is obviously wrong as the Taperite pens were made in the late 1940s and early 1950s in response to and in competition with the revolutionary Parker 51
Could this be a prototype for an up market model that was never produced or is this a frankenpen?
I believe a true prototype would have had a Waterman pocket clip and the trade mark engraving would have been cleaner and better defined so my conclusion is the latter.
I think that whomsoever buys this will have a rare and perhaps unique survivor
JIM MAMOULIDES or some of the other gurus on here may be able to give a more informed opinion

Not a prototype anything.

The auction details correctly identify the overlay.

That is why I said that the description do not match with a taperite as it says on auction details that is from 30´s and taperite is from 40´s 50´s as a respons to parker 51 like you pointed out. But if it is not a Taperite, and the the description is correct what model could be that pen? the clip looks a bit to the patrician style somehow. Lets see if anyone can tell us the madel of that mysteruous Waterman´s pen

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
