Waterman Sérénité

Alberto

Recommended Posts

While not often seen, I personally find the Waterman Sérénité to be one of the most beautiful pens ever made, especially in the Cocobolo version!

The grey and the blue versions do not appear in these older photos, that I thought I had lost...

Any love for the Sérénité out there?

I held one once.
I looked at the price.
I placed it down again with a sigh.

Lovely pens! I have never handled one so I wonder how comfortable they are to write with.

I find them very comfortable. The silver portion is the grip, and the pen can be posted to make it longer if you prefer the balance that way. Either way, it fits in the hand quite ergonomically...

They are truly beautiful!

I feel the Serenite is one of the few real advances or contributions in pen design in many decades. So many others are rehashes of old and popular designs, but these were--and still are--utterly fresh!

I would love to own one; alas, I have only a very, very cheap Chinese pseudo-copy.

Thanks for the snaps!

Really nice pens :)

Which one do you like best Alberto?

I never really looked at these pens - they are pricy - until someone knowledgeable about pens for who I have considerable respect said They are very zen.... I dont know too much about zen but I could now see the design influences and I would like to acquire one at some point soon...

I definitely prefer the Cocobolo wood version, and that is why I have three of them!

The wood is so hard that it is perfectly smooth to the touch, and the grip section is simpler than on the black, blue or grey models.

It is a shame that they only made 3000 of them...

Very beautiful, and nice pictures. But as several people have commented, the price is steep.

Still hoping I will find one at a vide grenier or flea market for "thirty euros, because it's got a gold nib" :-)

(Well, it worked with the Man Patrician...)

Too many pens, too little time!

I bought all of mine when they first came out, and one could get discounts on them. Still expensive, but not that bad at the time...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
