Greetings From France

Hello everyone!

My name is Caroline, I'm 33, I speak both french and english and I'm into reading, knitting/crochet, journaling, papers/collaging and drawing patterns.

I've been into fountain pens since I was 6 years old and learning how to write, and I actually still have that pen! It was a Waterman Forum in blue that I "stole" from my mother, who then bought me that same model in green. Since then I've always had a big pouch with a lot of very cheap fountain pens and it's only been in the last few months that I've started to be more serious about it. I've ditched cartridges, retired my trusty yellow Lamy safari, and fell in love with ink.

My latest fountain pen is my first gold nib: a Sailor professional gear slim Ocean in M. It's been inked with Diamine's grey since I received it two weeks ago and I can't get over it!

I discovered this forum through google searches for InCoWriMo and decided to sign up to not only share my love of fountain pens and learn new things, but also maybe meet new penpals? It will be my first year participating.

Bienvenue!

If you are near Paris, there's a regular pen meet these days - the last one was in a rather lovely salon de thé which managed to provide me with scones, home made jam and clotted cream! (Details on the fountain pen france facebook group.)

Too many pens, too little time!

Hello Caroline and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
