Spotting Lamy Safari Special Or Limited Editions Worldwide?

Does anyone have any tips about how to spot announcements of limited runs of Lamy Safari around the world when they are due to be released or even when they have been released? It just frustrates me when I find out three months after the release and find that they have all sold out... :( How do you keep your finger on the pulse worldwide?

I read the Lamy section in this forum.

As Lamy brings out asia-exclusive LEs we don't get any information here in Europe. They are giving out far less information on the German speaking market than any other. So, scanning this international forum often helps.

You may also try to read the specs. Sometimes there is informationen hidden in there. https://specs.lamy.com/en

Agreed, this is a frustration. I’ve discovered a number of models when they popped up on eBay, and it's always hard to tell if the seller is trustworthy.

The KMPN Blog is a pretty good source of information. It doesn't catch every edition, but it has posted about some of the LINE character exclusives (e.g. Lamy safari BROWN Edition (2015)) and the recent China-exclusive Studio Terracotta Pearl (want!). See also the “other known variants” notes at the end of the Lamy safari special editions post.

The white Safari with red clip is one I've wrestled with. The glossy red clip and red dot cap top seems to be the canonical “Japan Exclusive” model, but more recently a white safari with the same glossy red clip has been sold with a light grey cap top as an “Asia Exclusive color” that I haven't seen confirmed anywhere. Even more puzzling, I picked up a “Korea exclusive anniversary edition”, which is a glossy white Safari with a metallic red clip (actually gorgeous), and the light grey cap top. I haven't seen any description of this model online, so I have difficulty understanding its provenance, but I'm happy I own it.

Thank you for those great tips! Im particularly interested in your metallic clip Safari from Korea. Could you kindly post a photo of the clip? Sounds amazing. Also, where did you pick it up please?

Looks good and have now picked one up. There are so many official Lamy Safari collaborations now it is very difficult to stay on track with the releases before resellers try posting them for crazy money. So far Ive managed, but I missed the Tsum Tsum edition and I suspect it will one day become my first overly expensive Safari purchase unless I let that gap in my collection go...

Can the dark lilac LE Safari still be found somewhere?

Genuine Lamy Safari Dark Lilacs still do turn up on eBay on a fairly regular basis. Expect to pay somewhere in the neighbourhood of US$100 for a new one (although you can get lucky and pay a little less).

Do beware of fakes of this model, though. They are usually offered at “too good to be true” prices. The Safari Dark Lilac certainly seems to be the most widely counterfeited Lamy pen from what I've observed.

Theres an online store in the UK selling them for £32.90. I think its a bit rude given Lamys wholesale price to the shop isnt going to be anywhere near that, but its not ridiculously expensive.

Quietly always my favorite color pairing...

If my rainbow was missing French blue red, I'd have signed on zero grousing...

If bills-taxes paid, & the creek not rising... are&not.

this is at least the second time, maybe third, this pen has been up on MD for the same price, US$110. Sheesh. Someone must have bought a case on speculation (for what, $15-20 each? Maybe they fell off a truck.) at the release date and has been trickling them out for years.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

  • 3 weeks later...

Had some really great news today! A mate of mine in Soeul has apparently managed to source a single Tsum Tsum for me at a reasonable price. Will post pics if I can seal the deal.

Also, two Lamy Choco editions have just surfaced on eBay. The price made my eyes bleed... Glad I got mine before this incredible hike. But its out there if you want one of the 5000 that were produced.

This is the English version of Lamy's Corporate site, in German.

On this page, there are links to their social media pages.

I find that many brands, even retailers, use Instagram, and other social media pages, to showcase and create "buzz" for their new products.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
