I'll be on that one as soon as it is announced :D

I have wanted another M100X ever since I got my green stripe, but I am not much interested in another all black pen, which has been the only alternative to the green stripe for years. While I haven't really budgeted for a new pen in the price range, if they come out with an attractive iteration, I just might do it.

Rumors of the M1005 Anthracite Stresemann broke early last year. Release was anticipated for the end of last year. It appears that the release was pushed back for reasons unknown to me. I anticipate we should see this one sometime soon, likely first quarter 2019 as long as Pelikan doesn't scrap it. No "official" word yet but I've been keeping an eye out.

The Stresemann pattern is smart until you put it next to the metal stripe, then it looks dull, so I can manage to ignore an M1000 in it nice though it will be, but if they were to bring out a metal stripe M1000 I would just have to have one.

You're right Glenn, the Metal Stripe in 1000 size would be a no brainer for me as well. But for me, I'll pick up whatever 100x they put out this year, unless it's a Stone Garden

Announced today for February release!

No word yet as to price, but given that we know how those black stripes make a M405 £60 more than a M400 (like the extra cost of an EF nib, the reason for this remains a mystery) , I am expecting the worst.

I also want a choice of nibs, - I can't justify such an expensive pen if it doesn't have the nib I want. I suppose this will depend if it's an SE or an addition to the main line.

Appelboom, LcDC, and Niche all show it as available for pre-orders this morning. With the upcharge figured in for an EF nib it appears the price will be in the $760-780 range. Trying to decide if I want to just order an F and send it to a nibmeister...

One of those vendors lists it as only available for a short time. If that is true it is a SE and not going to be a regular addition to the M100x line-up. That's sad I think, but hey, they know their sales numbers...

The grey and black stripe tax seems proportionate across the range, so that's sort of good and makes me think that LcDC may be wrong with talk of a SE.

Plus, if Pelikan are offering it in the full range of nibs, would they really do that for a one-off SE? We know they really don't like to put themselves out unnecessarily, and the Black M1005 was medium only. What would they do with a range of rhodium plated nibs when the special edition ended?

Is it really that hard to have a silver trim model of their flagship pen? I know that for a lot of people, silver furniture is a deal breaker, and it does seem that they are turning away money for very little effort.

The stresemann finish is my favorite and while I own many pens from the souveran line, including a black M1005, somehow the gold trims of M1000 are not for me. But in my opinion, the nib of M100x is simply the best nib out there, pure pleasure. None of my pelikans has the stresemann finish, because I 've been waiting a long time for this moment. A combination of the best of both worlds, or, one of the best pens money can buy.

I agree that the metal stripe is also eye candy, but it's heavy as hell for someone like me who uses his pens for really long writing sessions. Of course, if M1005 comes with a metal stripe I would consider it, but for the time being I 'm waiting for a long test drive of stresemann M1005, preferably with a broad fire hose of a nib. :)

I had an M1005 black with F nib and saw a M1005 black B for sale.

OK - I think I am way out with my theories!

Other outlets have started calling it a special edition as well, talking about limited availability and putting prices and pictures online.

Niche are going with £550 (£595 for EF) on a list price of (gulp) £735, but Iguana Sell are doing it for £540 and no EF surcharge, so they have got my cash.

I still think not to have a plain black M1005 permanently in the range for the sake of a bit of plating is crazy though ...

John

(I see from my records that my first M1000 in that cheap and cheerful green striped finish was £230 in December 2008 :( )

I'm baffled too (about the lack of a plain black M1005 being in the standard lineup). Maybe the M1000 sells so sparsely as it is that they don't want to mess with another variant. Who knows...

Wow, those were the days! Should have bought a truckload of them to sell as new old stock now! LOL.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
