The Genius Of Joe Grasty

By the way, for Ethernautrix' sake: I think you had better read again his website, for I recollect reading that -- for the time being -- he is no longer accepting one-off custom work...so, good luck on that one.

I had an e-mail exchange with Joe several weeks ago and bought the #6 Jowo housing for the Pilot 912 (or #10) nib to use in a Danitrio. I'd been using #6 Jowo nibs in my two Danitrios for some years. Had to wait to return to Wrocław where my Danitrios were before I could make the magic happen.

Surprise! Both Danitrios use a Bock housing.

I had to laugh. Pretty sure I'd skimmed that detail a few times over the years on fpn, but...but...but my Danitrios easily took Jowo nibs.

I've had the flexiblenib page for the Bock housing for Pilot #10 nibs open on this tablet for a couple of weeks. Will order one for when I'm back in the States soon.

I wouldn't mind using that Pilot PO nib in a TWSBI Vac Mini or a Pilot 92 (#5 nib, alas). Currently back in its original 912 body and being used the hella out of, cos I just love that nib.

Nothing wrong with the 912. Mine is a beater, which is nice, cos I'm not neurotic about scratches and dings on it, but the 823 has made me seen the light about transparent barrels...and vac fillers (ink capacity, since rarely changing inks, also trips (bicycle, airplane)). (Then again, Pilot cartridges are super for refilling and carrying.)

Presently, I myself am awaiting his announcement of the release of his feed for Pelikan M1000. Any day now...?

Tell us more about the M1000 feed - I couldn't find anything on his web site.

@DonM: Go to his "Standard Products" page and scroll (quite far) down, until you come to "Planned products" and down a bit further you will see reference (left-hand side) to M1000E and across from it read "Coming November 2019"...I am still awaiting its announcement...! I can hardly wait! Are you in the same boat, I assume?

I'm looking for a solution to my M1000 being overly wet. I suspect that this won't be it, though, as he seems to specialize in making pens even wetter than stock.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
