As usual I always have several pens in my pocket. I was at the check out desk, my wife lend my MB149 to a friend of her. It was so quick, I didnt catch the snatch (it is one of those senior moment.). well...you know the rest...This young muscular dude muscles the cap apart by pulling...as I watched in horror and the crackling sound of the threads...Oh well...fleabay again! and the BBB nib was saved.

see im bold as brass tacks I would have asked him , Im sorry did you just break my pen ? yes you did and here is my address where you can send the replacement and if I don't see it in 30 days you can see me in small claims court . Then walk off . I don't let very many people get anything over on me and have been known to be very confrontational when someone does something stupid like that .

I'm sure it will be handled privately and appropriately.

One time a goof from the office grabbed a pen and held it up to eye level to pretend inspect, then went to turn the piston end of it, which would have resulted in ink gushing onto his nice white shirt.

Half of me wished he did it, but I told him to put it back and he did...

this stories always make me cringe so hard, it's common sense to always ask before you planning to take something from another person even if you are one family, my relatives even ask if they can take a piece of copy paper from me and waiting while i select one myself.
I see nothing wrong in carrying such pen, as long as it is under my supervision, but this exact same story could have happened not somewhere in the public but in your house after a couple of friends visit while you was away or in another room and thats even more awfull.

And you're still married to her????

Sigh......how she can misjudge someone.............who didn't look that foolish in real life.

A thousand stories of why one needs a ball point pen with one always................

And the fool didn't even notice he did something wrong??? No puzzled look at you clutching your heart.....or asking why the tears?

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

This is exactly why I keep a platinum preppy in my pocket for the inevitable "do you have a pen I can borrow?" request. It's always amusing to watch people try to figure out how to write with it.

My reply to that question/request is usually about the same as that to, "Do you have any change to spare?" on the street.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

seeing as the pull cap is so ubiquitous, whenever I hand anyone a pen, I always say "cap unscrews" or "cap pulls off"

It's compulsive. But whomever you handed that pen to was REALLY stupid to think anything should be capped that tightly.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

Who said I am not more muscular and where it counted most!

Besides I wasn't the only one who cringed at the sound...she knows how precious my pens are to me. And, she values my pen more than what can be bought.

Maybe send the pen to MB for repair. I expect you would end up with most everything on the pen replaced for the price but the nib and clip.

Don't lend. Don't lend. Don't lend.

Whenever I am asked I respond "Not my expensive fountain pen" and send them off to look for another pen.

I mean, who forgets to bring a pen? Their bad.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
