What's Your Most Recent Mb Purchase? 2019 Edition

Welcome to the club and the Broadside. Hopefully you have many years of writing pleasure from your 149.

Thank you, I am impressed with it, I made a brief attempt to get a OBBB but the local boutique happened to have a BB in stock. I believe I am equally impressed with the ink.

It is great to compare to the frankenpens that I torture with abrasives. I can match the smoothness(maybe not in all directions)but for even, fast ink flow, the 149 is without peer.

I am afraid, so far, I do baby it and only use it at home.

I am covering my eyes at this point :( Just happens tomorrow I am scheduled to meet the heads of design and nib departments at Montblanc, gotta discuss this one! No offense nonozon, but surely there are other 2019 creations that you may like better?

Just an opinion, but its very tacky. Let it sell to tourists visiting overseas Montblanc boutiques and teenagers. There's something very special coming towards the second half of the year, wait for it it'll be worth it.

Just hope that's its going to be within reach for most and not priced too much on the higher side.

It was €940 ($1065, £816) on the tag in the previous photos we (briefly) saw. Not sure whether that's in reach enough!

Not taken with the pen, but I do like the colour, and that ink might be a real treat. Eau-de-nil isn't a common colour, and would be a first for MB.

Hi all,

My 2 latest purchases are the 2 Meisterstuck Solitaire LeGrand Geometry's (both arriving in the past week) and before that was the Spider Metamorphosis 1906.

All are in use, 2 being chosen each day for work... I love them all, my favourite (at the moment) being the Platinum Geometry because the J Herbin Emerald of Chivor and Medium nib combination suits my writing style perfectly, but the Rouge Et Noir Serpent Solitaire is always in joint 1st place!

Great selection! Congratulations! You may notice a well-defined pattern in your taste.

Could you talk a little about Martelé? I'm in a cruel doubt ... A Martelé or another 149.

I always fall into the same problem ... I love the size of the 149 pen and, as I have a 145 (which I think is a pen with small proportional nib) I'm afraid I make a mistake. Thanks!

This week I managed to pick up a 90 year solitaire in a lightly used condition. My second MoP star and its mesmerising. Although a small pen it is metal and so well balanced and weighted. A daily writer in medium, if I find a 90 classique in B in the future I might swap it out but for now its a cheerful nib to wrote with.

Thank you Zaddick. Compared with Ludwing 888, Pope 888 is more practical to use with the shimmering red enamel. I will ink in my birthday.

Congratulations dubhe I always loved this pen and only hope I get me one before its too late and theyre gone.

Mjchuang9~ congratulations on a wonderful (if not the best) POA 888 in my opinion. Its a gorgeous pen isnt it? May I ask where you picked it up from? I sold mine very recently and theres a story behind it that I think the new owner should know, if its the same piece. PM if needed.

Thank you Pravda. The Pope could be the best POA in my opinion.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
