Does anyone know if Conid pens are airplane friendly. Ie.. does the piston mechanism seal the section off?Do you have to twist the blind cap at some point to allow ink flow ?

Most/All Conid pens have two chambers. One near the nib that is sealed off by the blind cap and the large bulk area. You could hold the pen nib up and let the one chamber drain back in to the build area or let it fill completely and then seal it.

I would think you should be safe flying with one, but you could always contact Conid and find out their take on the situation before ordering.

The small ink chamber is closed off from the main chamber when the blind cap is closed. When the small chamber runs low you just refill from the main by opening the blind cap.

Speaking from experience, just don't make the mistake of opening the larger ink chamber mid-flight and you should be fine. And if you absolutely must open the main chamber mid-flight, make sure the nib is pointed up and you have plenty of napkins ready to clean things up in case things go poorly (which they shouldn't but you never know how much ink is lingering in the feed, waiting for a little air pressure to make a mess).

Most pens are actually perfectly fine on airplanes, as long as you keep the nibs pointed up during takeoff and landing.

I've traveled with Conids a number of times and they're among my better behaved pens. As others have said, as long as the blind cap is closed, you should be just fine.

I've never had an issue with my Conid Kingsize Bulkfiller.. but mine has CAISO feature too.

Is the CAISO feature still available on current Conid pens? I saw that it's no longer advertised on their website.

An optimized Kingsize CAISO version - equipped with a newly designed "super" feed - is offered back by the middle of this year. Details will be revealed within a few months.

Stay tuned !

Something in green would be a nice coincidence too.. I'm ready to pick up another Conid.

What Mulrich said. I ran some tests of the original CAISO (looking forward to seeing new developments) in small, unpressurized aircraft. Altitude was up to 9000', so about the level to which commercial jets are pressurized. I did include some mild aerobatics and the Conid was much less sensitive to G force than my old butt was. Never a problem, though I did not try uncapping the pen during maneuvers. Good pen for pilots.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
