@ E-40 from what I read.

Was thinking of sending a nib or two to a guy in Spain.

Stateside price is $85 or so....and a long line.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Should have sent those nibs in 4-5 years ago when it was cheaper.

They are matching US prices............why not the line there is very long.

Cost of mailing a pen to the states from Germany is Cheap!!!

Stateside overseas mailing could well be the most expensive in the world. It is high enough to think three times about getting anything from the States.

One can of course stockpile one's list....and fly to the states, buy cheap jeans and have everything delivered to the motel............and almost save money.

Can't go wrong with Mottishaw or FPnibs.com

I had heard John was no longer retipping nibs. I do not see retipping offered on his web site.

When did you last check about ripping?

Naw, I just tried one of his retipped nibs at the dc pen show... there has never been a wetter music nib I have ever touched. The vendor told me John did retipping. John still offers nib/pen repair services, but only for the pens purchased from HIM. I don't know if retipping applies.

Greg Minuskin was the guy I was trying to remember, he still does retipping. I tried a Parker 51 Minuskin stub at the DC pen show, the ink flow can match no other pen.

  • 1 year later...

Dear all,

goldnibs.com does not seem to exist any more.

Mottishaw or FPnibs.com: as far as I know, they do not offer retipping for old nibs.

Does any one know who still offers retipping of old nibs (preferably in Europe)?

Thanks

Michael

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
