Nib That Would Fit A Sailor Nagasawa Profit Skeleton Proske

Hello all,

got a XMAS gift, the Nagasawa Original Profit Skeleton Proske Fountain Pen - Black Trim with a Medium nib. Obviously had I known I would have told the person to order a BROAD nib so that it would write like a Western Medium nib. Unfortunately it is impossible to exchange. So is there a western medium nib or japanese broad nib somewhere that would fit this pen? Searching the net brought no answers. Maybe you people. Thanks.

That's too bad, sounds like a really nice pen, and it's not exactly cheap; I would probably sell it, but you might want to tell whoever gave it to you (or risk only getting ugly sweaters from now on!). Since it's probably a Sailor nib, I'll venture to say it's bound to be very nice. I have a pro gear with the medium 21k nib, when I first got it it was sort of dry, in the sense that inks would come out very muted. I pressed a little and outwards and it transformed, still smooth but ink comes out much more saturated, made my favorite ink Tsuyu Kusa look great. But if you do decide to sell it, leave well enough alone, lest you dent the resale price...

If the pen is still NIB (meaning new in box,, and you haven't taken off the tags or inked it), it could be exchanged for the same pen with a broad or zoom nib, or for a different pen.
Talk with the giver to arrange this.

Otherwise, you could contact Sailor Pens in Japan and ask about sending in the pen to exchange the nib.
Other nibs don't fit Sailor pens.

Thank you cattar and pseudo88 for your replies. Well I guess I'm stuck with it, because its no longer NIB. The person that gave it to me would be devastated if I got rid of it, the poor thing. I'll follow cattar's suggestion and contact Sailor Pens in Japan.

Or perhaps try a wetter ink for a start.

I have the gold-trimmed Proske, and I'm sure that's just a Sailor 1911 Standard pen model by any other name, so you should be able to swap in any of the nibs from another Sailor 1911 or Professional Gear. My experience is that the friction-fit nibs and feeds are fairly easy to remove from Sailor pen sections, including on my Pro Gear Imperial Black.

Spare/interchangeable nibs are not what Japanese manufacturers offer as a catalogue item for retail, however. (Pilot Capless nib assemblies are an exception.) You generally have to buy another pen if you just want its nib.

If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
