There have been lots of new inks that were released in 2018. Im curious about your top ink of the year, your real favourite. And no cheating... there can be only one ! One ink to rule them all.

I discovered a number of very interesting new inks in 2018, and find it difficult to select my precious. But after lots of soul-searching, Ive gone for J.Herbin Vert de Gris, which I really really like.

Whats your favourite ?

Monteverde Horizon Blue (thanks to a review by dcwiates) Monteverde, in general, was a discovery of mine in 2018 and I have come to greatly appreciate their inks.

I did not buy any ink released in 2018, but this year I finally bought Sailor Kobe Suma Purple, which is not only my favorite new ink of 2018 but probably my favorite ink overall.

Waterman inks were a personal new ink for me... I was looking for a nice bright pure blue and really like Serenity Blue. I tired a lot of new inks this year but that one would be my winner.

The stand-out for me is Stipula Dark Blue. Instantly bowled over by the color and shading.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

I've found a few new-to-me inks this year that I really like.

FPN member NickiStew's Randall Blue Black is very nice.

Another vote here for Monteverde Horizon Blue -- great sheen and very well behaved.

A new one for me is a partial bottle a friend gave me that she got from someone cleaning out his basement -- Campo Marzio Bordeaux (it's not really a burgundy, so much as a berry-red).

MB Beatles Psychedelic Purple LE -- great color (one of my favorite purples).

Honorable mention: Noodler's Luck of the Draw -- a sort of a weird dark green black, but works very well in my Noodler's Boston Safety.

Me?!? I like Private Reserve Inks, BUT my "NEW" favorite ink of 2018 is Monteverde's "Purple Reign" which came FREE when I bought my first NEW pen since 1998, the Conklin Duragraph "Purple Nights". I've tried this ink in all my vintage Waterman's and even my ancient Parker 45's. I may be buying more Monteverde inks in the future in addition to my Private Reserve inks.

rohrer and klingner aubergine and herbin rouge grenat. they work perfectly in my very dry and fine Pilot 74 EF. not many inks can be used with that pen.

KWZ Walk Over Vistula - a great, deep, blue which leans to teal but not so far that it is a teal.

Monteverde Fire Opal - a dark orange with great shading and lots of character.

KWZ Baltic Memories for me....

It was the only ink released this year that I bought, but as I have more than enough ink, and blues at that, I couldn’t stay away from the subtle range of color this ink possesses...

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

While the ink itself wasn't released in 2018, their 140ml Limited Edition glass bottles were, Blackstone "Sydney Harbour" blue.

For me anyway, it's the most amazing blue!

Of the inks that came to me in 2018, only one was released this year to my knowledge. Edelstein Olivine.

But it was only one of a handful that I love and gwt used regularly. Olivine, KWZI El Dorado and Pine Green. El Dorado truly surprised me how much I like it.

That's easy: Pelikan Edelstein Olivine!

For the ink that was released in 2018, Pelikan achieved epic victory royale with the Olivine

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China. With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters. Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed. And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments.. I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
