Using Hero Parts On Parker 51

Greetings!

I have a Parker 51 pen and pencil set. The pen needs a new nib, possibly a new feed. It is an aerometric filler. Body of pen has date code "9" The filler housing has a black "jewel" on the top and screws into the section, unlike a 1950 aerometric filler that I have. Makes me wonder if it is 1949 or 1959. The remains of the nib is marked 1948. The pencil that came with it is a push button type with grippers that hold the lead. My 1950 pencil is a twist type.

It looks like a previous owner used pliers to remove the nib. The nib is ruined and the feed has some chipping on the edge.

In order to save money, can I order some Hero pens off Amazon and use the nibs and feeds? Has anyone tried this? I am wanting this to be a working pen, and not necessarily a collector item.

Thank you,

Jack Kozak

If the filler shroud is aluminium and the inscription on it says '...press ribbed bar firmly 6 times', it is from 1948-9. From 1950 onward it is '4 times'.

Buy a 51 nib and feed for your pen. Please.

current common hero nibs and feeders are smaller and will not fit.

Try to buy a parker 21 super octanium nib, it will be cheaper. a slightly chipped feeder can still work, so you really may not need a new one.

Thank you both. I will not try Hero parts. And the filler shroud says to press 6 times.

Good move.

For interest's sake: I don't think anything from a Hero 616 will fit on a Parker 51, anyway. They're built on a different scale.

Jack: Have you any pictures of the damage? As Hari points out, you may just need a nib, if the feed isn't too bad?

I see spare 51 parts on ebay and at pen shows, quite regularly.

It's worth the proper fix. It could last you a lifetime. Great pens!

Good luck.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
