Will A Pvc Sac Damage An Esterbrook Lj?

I have an Esterbrook LJ that I resacked with a PVC sac about six years ago. Should I expect that there will be some downside to using the PVC sac in the LJ? I don't see any damage yet.

I don't know that there is a definitive answer for this question. It has been suggested that the plasticizers in a PVC sac may soften the material of the pen when it comes in contact with it. I haven't seen evidence that is the case, but it may take time for it to happen. ...a lot of time. Given that the alternative is a silicone sac, which forces you to store the pen nib up or risk oozing, or to use a latex sac, I tend to use a PVC sac in my pens which are likely to see heavy use. Thus far I haven't seen any evidence of damage. I would put a good coating of talc on the sac before putting it in the pen though.

 

My rationale is that given the value of the pen, and the fact that it is likely to outlast me no matter what, I'm willing to take the risk. So they're in several of my Esterbrooks.
