Early Birome Ballpoints - Does Anyone Collect Them?

Recommended Posts

I started adding a few early Birome ballpoint pens to my collection. I can't find much in the way of resourses or even other people that collect them. I have a number of books on fountain pens and other writing devices but haven't seen anything on ballpoints.

Anyone here collect them or know of collecting resources? I'm really interested in seeing different models.

I am interested in finding an original of these too. I just read a book about it and I was looking for a ballpoint that suited my particular collecting style and this is it. Don’t have one yet, but am looking.

I learned about them from the book Ballpoint. I’d like to find out more.

I collect old ballpoints. Don't have a Birome yet,but I've got some others that are nice. Just scored an original Reynolds Rocket online and can't wait for it to get here!

I just recently started looking. The originals aren’t easy to come by, but millions were made, so I’m sure I’ll find one at a reasonable price one day.

Aside from some overpriced advertisments, I haven't seen any information on them.

I received my Reynolds and it's a beautiful pen! Too bad there's no way to refill them.

Next I'll be searching for another Rolls and a Birome.

Contact FPN user BamaPen. He makes 3D printed adapters for the old Esterbrook FJ pens and has mentioned he would be willing to entertain an adapter for a Birome (He's gonna be the first person I contact once I finally get my hands on one). He might have the capability of doing the Reynolds. I'm sure if you want to get it working, there will be others, and he'd have another product to offer for sale.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
