Greetings From Yorkshire! And Thanks For Saving Me From Fakes.

Hi! Greetings from Yorkshire.

I'm new to Fountain Pens, but found this forum so helpful when I was choosing my first pen in August. In fact, you saved me from fake Lamys on Amazon, I am certain. Gosh, that copper-orange looked so pretty and was so much cheaper than any in WHSmiths...

Ended up with a purple Lamy Al-Star from WHSmiths which I adore.

Of course, I was only going to have one fountain pen. Yup. That was all I needed, and also naturally I would write in blue or black, because who writes in any other colours, right?

I bought a 1.5 nib and Diamine Purple Pazazz specially to write my xmas cards...

I accidently bought another Al-Star and there's a "found" fountain pen that turned up in a drawer at my parents' next to a bit of the Berlin Wall on its way.

Where did I come to find out what "Iridium Point, W Germany" meant?

That's right, here.

So hello, thank you for helping me without even knowing you were doing it, and Merry Xmas from Yorkshire!

Allie T

Hi Allie T

Welcome aboard, I hope you enjoy your stay.

I enjoy seeing your enthusiasm with FPs, its a good reminder, I take so much for granted now. I am sure you will enjoy the journey down the path ("rabbit hole"). ;-)

It's vintage and dip pens that have my attention, it's a new world!

Welcome to this merry band. As I trust you will have learned, IRIDIUM POINT GERMANY doesn't mean very much in particular. One wants to know the rest of the circumstances.

Hello and welcome to you from a bit up the M62 in Manchester. What part of the White Rose Country do you live in ?

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Yes, I did learn that here thank you all, and there are no maker's marks on it anywhere. It was probably a gift to my mum for a pupil, but I have yet to see it. May have been bought in Berlin when the wall came down... may just have ended up next to the bit of the Berlin Wall in a drawer! I shall see how it writes...

Off East in the shadow of the Wolds - and on the way to Hull.

Flat on one side of the road, rollercoaster on the other.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
