Slow Flow

I have two identical Century Cross Pens with identical nibs and ink cartridges. One writes very well but the other appears to have a lighter ink disperson and skips when I write a word that goes up such as an "l" for down like the letter "f". I have cleaned it thoroughly and have changed inks but nothing fixes this. Could there be a problem with the fins or the nibs tins separation. Any ideas?

The flow could likely be increased by opening the tines a bit, but be careful. There are several YouTube videos that show the procedure, do you have a couple of inexpensive opens you could practice on?

I do not have anything to practice on but will look for some videos to see if I want to even try this method. I have asked Cross about this and will see what their response will be. I had to replace one because I bent the tins to much. Thank you for your response.

I did another thorough cleaning, with Goulet Pen Flush, of the entire nib section and loaded it up with Noodler's Blue-Black ink. It appears to have corrected many of the problems I was having. Maybe it has to get used to my left handed writing.

I noticed that one nib (#0718) has the nib size just below the center of the crossed lines and above the word "CROSS". The other one has the nib (#1217) size at the bottom of the nib below the word CROSS. Is this because of the year it was made? The 1217 was the one I was have a problem with. I have not tested enough to say that it has straightened itself out but certainly has improved.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
