Hi everybody, I really like the look of this pen but have no experience with Aurora whatsoever. My question is this: are there any very similar pens (from an esthetic p.o.v.) that I can consider (max 350€)? Anyone experience with this pen?  I am not really interested in vintage pens and the Aurora 88 is too expensive... Thanks!

Hello Fphilipp,

I have Aurora Ipsilons and I enjoy using them a lot. They are short pens... about 4.5" unposted; about 6" posted... because I have larger hands with long fingers, I have to post mine... but the cap clicks to post... which is a nice feature. The pen is only .8 oz., (according to my scale here; not sure how that breaks down into grams), so it's easy to write with for extended periods.

All of mine have broad nibs and are very smooth... depending on what inks you use, you might get a slight drag... like your writing with a pencil... Aurora nibs are known for having a little tooth,... but if you use Iroshizuku inks in them, you won't feel any drag at all... at least I don't.

If you have any specific question(s); please lmk. :)

Be well and enjoy life. :)

- Anthony

Just to follow-up...

New York Magazine just named the Ipsilon as the best fountain pen, (ranking #4 among all pens):

http://nymag.com/str...ountain.html#20

I wouldn't go that far myself... I think the L2K is the best... :D ...along with my namesake... and one or two others... :D ...but the Ipsilon is a pretty good pen overall. :)

Hi Anthony, thanks for your answer. Does your Ipsilon have the gold nib? (L2K: totally agree!)

Hi Fphilipp,

Unfortunately, I bought mine in my early days of pen collecting... when I thought anything over $200 for a pen was ridiculous. Mine are all steel nibs...

...although they have one out now in a turtle lacquer finish with a gold nib that I could really be tempted to buy... if I let myself look at it for more than three seconds.

But I would imagine their gold nibs are even better than my steel nibs.

One word of caution... although I've never used one myself, I've heard their Italic nibs are very sharp and more than toothy.

I have an Aurora Ipsilon with a fine steel nib that is usually in my shoulder bag. I find it to be very smooth with the Parke Quink that is now in the converter. I bought the pen at the Atlanta Pen Show a couple of years ago. It was a salesman demo and had no converter, but I found a knowledgeable seller with a Parker converter that works perfectly. I, like Anthony, like the snap posting feature.

For love of it. And yet not waste time either.

That's great!

Please come back and let us know how you like it... :) ... or not. :(

But I think you'll like it... the big question is will you like it... or will you like it, like it... ... or not... ...but I think you'll like it... :)

- Anthony ;)

Hi Corgi, et al,

Knowing me, I probably edited more in. :D I was spoofing our years in middle school/junior high, when one of your friends would say to you something like, "You know, Tammy likes you." ...

... and the typical response would be, "does she just like me, or does she really like me?" ... with the more comical variation being, "does she just like me,... or does she like me, like me?" :D

Hhhmmm... I'm kinda sorry I started this whole thing now.

Pen arrived today, filled it with Aurora Blue Black, and love it. Particularly like the cap that clicks on the body, also when posted.

Hi Fphilipp,

That's great! I'm glad to hear it.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear you bought more Ipsilon's... in due time. :D I've been seriously considering getting one with a gold nib... like yours... mine have the steel nibs.

Be well... and enjoy your new Ipsilon. :)
