It looks like they -might- be interchangeable. Does anyone know if they are?

Well I just spent forty bucks on two 18k preface nibs, so we'll find out!

 

If it doesn't fit my mom's old phileas, if anyone is looking for a reasonable priced 18k preface nib, just let me know!

I do think it'll be on the small side. I planned on experimenting with it either way.

Those nibs might fit a Laureat or a similar size pen. Laureats often have had corroded steel nibs in my experience. The nibs might fit an Expert..

Does anyone know where nibs for the l'etalon may be found on their own? I only see whole pens for a whole lot of money, but would really like to find a gold nib that fits my mom's old phileas.

Try our member Dutchpen. He usually has parts for older Watermans.

The tip for dutchpen paid off. He had one remaining l'etalon nib for a reasonable price, and he may even take my preface nibs for partial trade, so I bought the nib. Mom's old phileas will look a hell of a lot nicer with a shiny new 18k nib!

I can report that the L'etalon nib fits the phileas perfectly. Bit weird to put an $80 nib in a phileas, but it was my mom's pen and I always wanted a nicer nib in it.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
