Nib For Twsbi Vac 700R

Hello there,

Quite some people have asked the same question and many said JoWo #6 will fit vac 700r. I just wonder if Franklin Christoph #6 will work, too? Has anyone tried Pelikan nib? I am expecting my vac700r and eager to look for a gold nib for switching. Hope to have your kind advice.

According to Pablo from fpnibs.com (who is a skilled nib technician and penmaker), the Vac 700 nib is configured a little differently to a standard JoWo nib (closer in shape to a Bock #6). He recommends the #6 BF nib available from his site ( You'll find an explanation on his YouTube channel:

I've ordered a couple of these to replace a couple of #6 Bock nibs - they only come in Medium, but I asked Pablo to customise them, one as an Architect grind, the other as a fine-ish stub nib. The fit well and write superbly!

I believe a standard JoWo nib (from F-C or elsewhere) will fit *reasonably* well, but the curvature of the nib is a little different, so it won't sit as snugly against the Vac 700 feed.

This is why we have jewlers soft nosed pliers :D

Add lightness and simplicate.

Yessss! Sometimes a little brute force is needed in any hobby

Or even gently applied pressure.

Add lightness and simplicate.

While there are minor differences, he first sold me an 18k flex nib made as a BF just for TWSBI's and that fit well, but I have had no issues whatsoever with the 14k non BF he sold me when the 18k variant was stolen. it fits perfectly fine.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

Thank you for you all’s advice!

I have received my vac700r (finally) and inked it immediately after cleaning the Twsbi steel F nib. It writes better than I imagine, to my surprise. Not scratch at all, though not butterfly smooth either. Better than my Visconti speed boat stub nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
