Fergus

I was looking at my avatar a few days ago and thinking of ol Fergus and that he has been gone 3 years now. Still sadly missed.

So here is a combined picture of him waiting patiently to come in and peruse my, then, collection.

He is no doubt thinking...what on earth does he need all those pens for.

Ferg has gone and so have many of the pens in this picture.

I still have as many, if not more, but more specific models.

Is it really three years since he passed on?

They do worm their way into our hearts, and never leave us: it's eighteen months since we PTS our wonderful cat and there are still reminders of her everywhere.

Wonderful photograph - my children now realise that I don't really have a serious pen habit

A nice collection. But most importantly the lovely, lovely cat.

Seeking a Parker Duofold Centennial cap top medallion/cover/decal.
My Mosaic Black Centennial MK2 lost it (used to have silver color decal).

Preferably MK2. MK3 or MK1 is also OK as long as it fits.
Preferably EU.

A well lived life with curiosities abounding and comfy napping spots. May we all have Fergus-worthy lives. He was a beautiful darling.

Wonderful portraits. He was beautiful, and I loved his face.

Great photos. He obviously lived an excellent life.

I do find one part of your post hard to believe. I have 3 cats. None of them wait patiently. I am however, open to persuasion, that there are patient cats somewhere in the universe.

That doors window rubber seal is loaded with his nail marks so sometimes he was not as patient :lticaptd:

Our adult cat is patient. She waits for us to open the door or present her food. She gnaws the nearest brass, probably thinking we are slow witted. I open the outside door, and she gnaws some desk drawer handle and chews a string dangling from the coat rack. I wait patiently for her to go out.

I think you have it the right way around here, humans wait patiently for the cat to decide what it wants to do.

What a great tribute to him. The black and white cats I've had have been particularly intelligent and affectionate, Fergus looks like he was one of those too. Special boy. Mind you, they all are in their own way .... (as a tabby and white has just wandered in to remind me)

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

I keep telling my wife, "small brain, patience."

Those lovely photos remind me of my last cat that passed on around the same time as your Fergus did (ginger cat's eyes used as my avatar) ... and how she continuously baffled me by going to sleep in/on anything new that was put down no matter how uncomfortable it appeared; I recall looking down from atop a step ladder to see her fast asleep in an open tool box full of pointy and serrated tools!! . After many years I realised that cats are not intended to be understood, merely accepted.

My current avatar has also sadly passed on, this year, but lived for almost 9 years which is pretty good for hens, and she was also a real character.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
